Fiskars 9634 Power-Lever Bypass Pruner Review

Fiskars 9634 Power-Lever Bypass Pruner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Pruning is a snap with these pruners by Fiskar. I lost a lot of my gripping power in my pruning hand due to an injury and I have no trouble using these pruners. For larger limbs reaching the cutting capacity of this pruner, I simply begin the cut and rock the cutters as I squeeze, I also like the way they fit my small hand which is not to say that large hands would not be comfortable too. I love these pruners so much that when I lost my first pair, I did not hesitate to replace them with another.

The Fiskars PowerLever bypass pruner features Fiskars' patented PowerLever technology, which increases cutting power by 35 percent. The slim, but strong tool will fit nicely into an apron or pants pocket when not in use, and can easily cut branches up to 3/4-inches in diameter. It sports an ideal blade length for precision cutting and maneuvering through dense growth, aEuropean grip design that's sized for both small and medium hands, and a handle design that allows for both left and right-handed use. The blade includes a locking mechanism that helps prevent accidents as well as provides for easy transportation. Fiskars 9258 10-Inch Power Tooth Sliding Pruning Saw with Carabiner Clip Review

Fiskars 9258 10-Inch Power Tooth Sliding Pruning Saw with Carabiner Clip
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My Fiskars 9258 10-inch Power Tooth Pruning Saw is working well for clearing small, downed trees across my woodland trails. It's lightweight and the blade is quick to deploy. The very sharp teeth quickly cut through logs up to 4 inches in diameter. The carabiner clip doesn't work for me as I'm usually wearing a large backpack with a wide waist belt and I travel through dense brush and forest. If I were using this saw in the garden, it might be handy to clip it into my belt loop. The one thing that would have made me like this saw even better is if the handle were in a bright color - orange or red. Black blends in with the forest floor. I have to be careful to note the location when I lay down the saw. I am going to put a band of red duct tape somewhere on the handle.

Average Reviews:

I own this & find it very handy-but it has its problems. Right now I'm replacing it because the gears stripped. It's rated for branches up to 4" diameter but my advice is to use it on nothing larger than 2"-or else support the branch while cutting it. Unsupported branches can be expected to sag & pinch the blade. If the branch is heavy enough this pinching will stop the blade & the gears will strip. The cost of replacing the gears is essentially the same as the cost of replacing the entire unit.

Fiskars 7031 30-Inch Bow Saw Review

Fiskars 7031 30-Inch Bow Saw
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For a period of twenty years or so starting in about 1950, bow saws based on a design by the Sandvik Company in Sweden were used for serious work in forestry and arboriculture. They were lighter and easier to use than crosscut saws, but were much cheaper than gasoline powered chain saws, which had not quite permeated the market to the extent that they did later on. Unfortunately for those of us who still use bow saws for serious work, they are no longer made as well as they once were. Today's bow saws are almost all made by contract with companies in Asia and marketed for very light use.
Nonetheless, in the midst of this sad situation, the Fiskars stands out as one saw that is reasonably good. It is lightweight, has excellent balance, feels right in the hand, and the the blade stays taught in spite of regular use.
By comparison, the Corona 30 inch saw is strong but feels a little heavy. The Bahco and Gilmour versions of the 30 inch saw are lightweight and well balanced, but the tensioning handles are loose. The cheap plastic hand guard on the Bahco saw I own actually fell off the first time I used it and I have had to wrap the saw with tape to keep the handle tight. The saw selling for five dollars available from Northern Tool and Equipment Company is so poorly made it is appalling.
I have used the Fiskars 30 inch bow saw in trailwork and around the home, felling, bucking and limbing trees up to 10 inches in diameter quite easily. It cuts well in both green and dry wood with a Bahco No. 51 blade (all cutting teeth, no rakers), and it is small enough to get into tight places, which is often needed when clearing blowdowns or when limbing large trees. To cut trees in the 10 inch size range, one must, of course, cut from two directions. With a little practice, one can master the art of getting both cuts to meet so that the log is cut through cleanly, almost as if it was done from one direction only.
I have purchased and tested additional bow saws made in Italy and Germany. One of these was quite good but apparently not available in the United States. I have also purchased the Bahco heavy-duty 30 inch bow saw, called the "Force" model. This saw is excellent and should not be confused with the more common Bahco saw with the removable plastic hand guard. The Force saw is heavier and more ruggedly built than either the common Bahco saw or the Fiskars model, and it cuts logs up to 12 inches in diameter. The strong plastic hand guard is part of the saw frame and there is no handle that opens and closes to apply tension to the saw blade. Instead, a screw-type tensioning mechanism, similar to those first used on Sandvik bow saws 60 years ago, is used to insert or remove blades and to keep them taught. This method of tensioning the blade is much easier and keeps the blade tighter than in most of today's models. Because the Force saw is heavier, I would still recommend the Fiskars model for most homeowners, but for demanding applications, such as trailwork and forestry, I would recommend the Bachco 30 inch Force saw instead.

If you prune only a few branches a year, this may be adequate. Anything more, you will be screaming with each use. The cutting mechanism gets jammed with each pull of the rope. The saw blade attachment is not very sharp, and it takes forever to cut a small limb. The pole is too whippy and difficult to control. Get something better for your arms' sake.

Fiskars 9394 12-Foot Extendable Pruning Saw Review

Fiskars 9394 12-Foot Extendable Pruning Saw
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I replaced my Home Depot pole saw/pruner with this Fiskars model. What a difference some thoughtful engineering makes.
(1) Pole Does Not Bend: The pole does not bend even when extended to full length. Nothing is more frustrating than having the pole bend and bounce out of the cut when it is fully extended.
(2) Locking Mechanism: On the HD pole saw the extension is "locked" with a compression collar. This design does not work well when it gets wet and loses its gripping power over time. The most powerful cut is the down stroke and on my HD brand saw when the collar slipped the pole simply came apart. On the Fiskars the lever-clamp clicks into the locked position and the clamping power can be adjusted with a screwdriver. The pole never came apart during use.
Save your time and a return trip to HD with this extremely well made pole saw!

Fiskars 9301 Power-Lever 14-Foot Tree Pruner Review

Fiskars 9301 Power-Lever 14-Foot Tree Pruner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I went looking for a pole saw because branches were rubbing on my roof and hitting my gutters. I found a few at a local hardware store, which the salesperson described as hard to use, then he tried to steer me toward buying either an electric or gas-powered pole-mounted chainsaw. I don't trim trees often, so I wanted to avoid the expense of and maintenance on a chainsaw. However, the manual pole saws they carried were all a brand I had never heard of, heavier than I wanted, and priced comparably with this Fiskars, so I decided to buy it from Amazon. I was pleased that this saw was significantly lighter, and that the replaceable Woodzig blade is an aggressive cutter -- it doesn't require a lot of weight on the blade, although I found a rapid jab-tug worked best to keep branches from swaying back and forth. I also debated buying the model that's just a saw, but having the pruner for smaller branches (which aren't stiff enough to saw efficiently) is well worth the extra money and weight. I haven't used this tool long enough to speak definitively about how the extension lock holds up over time, but I found it easy to use and it did not slip. This tool was much easier to use than expected, and I have no doubts that the decision to order this model rather than what the local store stocked was a good one.
I also want to make an observation based on other pole saw reviews I've read. I've read complaints about blades binding and how dangerous falling branches are, leading me to suspect that people were sawing on branches directly above them. That's not how you should use a pole saw; you should extend it so that you're standing off to the side and cut on the top of branches rather than their side. This technique results in the weight of the branch opening your cut rather than pinching the blade, and when the branch falls you aren't underneath it.

I liked the idea of this saw but the execution wasn't so great. it is a quality saw and felt very sturdy but the blade was to short for me and the locking screw tightened up when I was sawing and I had to use pliers to undo it. I ended up returning it and getting a folding design.

I bought a Fiskars 6' pruning stick had had terrible time with it and bought another one and it went back also. I then bought the Corona 6' Power Glide stick Pruner and I must say it is the best of the 2 by far. Corona pruners and trimmers have been the best graded garden tools for a long long time. I never should have doubted there reputation and instead of buying a sleek and cool looking fiskars pruning stick I should have just bought the one brand that makes the best tools. I have about three (3) pairs of Corona trimmers in my shed and I have one of my grandfathers Corona trimmers as well. Do yourself a big favor and bypass the sleek looks of the Fiskars pruners and buy the best and stick with a company that has been the staple brand for landscapers, yard men, Nurserymen, and horticulturist for decades. I am a professional Sharpener and I mostly sharpen Knives and Scissors but in the spring I sharpen pruners and lopers for a lot of professional nurserymen as well a regular homeowners. I also sell knives and scissors and I have to tell you that after Fiskars bought the Gerber Knife and tool company the quality took a nose dive and now I refuse to sharpen any Fiskars or Gerber product.

Fiskars 9240 Telescoping Pruning Stik Review

Fiskars 9240 Telescoping Pruning Stik

This pole pruner performs excellently.
I found the following features to be especially useful:
- rotating head, allows easy cuts of branches at different angles.
- no additional rope to pull, makes for easy cutting and handling.
- saw blade is sharp and it also allows user to change the angle of the blade so that you can saw more efficiently.
Features I wish it had:
- the ability to cut more than its 1 & 1/4-inch cutting capacity.
- when using the saw blade, the FULLY extended handle flexes a bit more than I prefer.
Overall this telescopeing pole pruner is excellent.
I have been using mine regularly to prune trees for over a year and it still cuts as sharply as it did on the first day.
By the way, some reviewers mentioned that the packaging was poor and they got a damaged product, they must have ordered it early before the new packaging was incorporated. My Pruning Stik arrived in good condition, it had a thick supporting cardboard piece to ensure the long box did not bend.

Average Reviews:

The shear jams easily and is difficult to free once it jams.
The pole clamp is poorly designed. It clamps to the outer telescoping tube instead of being glued, which allows the outer tube to easily separate from the clamp because the outer telescoping tube is thin and will not withstand much clamping force and the clamp is made from slick plastic.
I spent so much time freeing jams and trying to keep the pole together that I discarded it after three uses. It was not worth the frustration.
Fiskars may make good scissors but they make a lousy pole saw.

I recently bought this blade as a replacement for my Corona pole pruner.
This blade was an upgrade to the original. I would say the claim that "cuts twice as fast" is definitely accurate. I wish I had bought sooner.
Arrived in a few days and was easily installed.
This item is designed to be a universal replacement blade for several different manufacturer's pruners. So the only disadvantage is on my pole pruner, the base of the blade overlaps the space for the guillotine pruner. Probably only about 1/4" though. Not the end of the world, but would be nicer if this was not the case.

I have an older (15 years) Tom Thumb brand pruner that was made for True Value Hardware. True Value now sells a different puner under this brand name...not as good in my opinion. They no longer carry a replacement blade for the older Tomb Thumb pruner. After looking at several manufacturers of saw blades I came across the Fiskars.
