Silky Straight Landscaping Hand Saw GOMTARO 240 Large Teeth (Root-Cutting) 153-24 Review

I cannot praise this saw highly enough. If you have ever needed to cut roots when digging up a pesky privet grown into an ugly tree, or a volunteer walnut or maple that you don't want growing next to your fence, then you NEED this saw. I have used it on a dozen trees and shrubs when roots got in the way of digging it out. It is still as sharp as new, even though it has been cutting green wood with dirt, sand and rocks stuck to it.
I also own the Silky Hayauchi pole saw, and a Silky Master carpenter's saw, and all of these tools are of the very finest quality, and they are an absolute joy to use and even just to look at. I may already own 3 of Silky's fine saws, but I am sure to buy more of them!!

I was very surprised at how well this saw cut through wet, green wood. The teeth stayed relatively free from the debris, and cut 2 inch branches quickly. The saw felt sturdy and the lock mechanism worked easily.

I had borrowed one of these saws from a neighbor and knew I had to have one of my own. I use it mainly for pruning small trees and it cuts through even 4 inch limbs easily, and requires less arm strengh to use than most pruning saws. I highly recomend it, but add a word of caution, it is very sharp and must be used with care, even brushing your skin creates a unwanted result!

On a volunteering event, I was introduced to this saw. I could only borrow it; even though after several uses, I wanted to take it home. I used the Silky Gomtaro for tree trimming at a park. The guy that recommended this particular brand to me, was working in the Tree Trimming department at our company. They have to trim trees year round. I refuse to buy an $8.00 handsaw when someone can purchase one of these....believe me, this will be the last you buy. Even though it's a bit more expensive, it is worth the quality of this saw. Not to mention, when trimming my own trees, I didn't have to work as hard as I would have with the cheap hand saw. The Silky, and I am sure ALL Silky saws cut like this one does. This is a decent size saw for taking down small to medium branches. I have had no issues, and I can attach it to my belt and climb with it without worrying about cutting myself. I recommend this saw to anyone.

Amazon did not sell this at the time I bought mine ( and the Hayauchi pole saw ). This saw really cuts well even on oak limbs and is certainly easier carry when climbing up tall trees than a chainsaw. I have used it to cut a couple 8in limbs too.

I own this & find it very handy-but it has its problems. Right now I'm replacing it because the gears stripped. It's rated for branches up to 4" diameter but my advice is to use it on nothing larger than 2"-or else support the branch while cutting it. Unsupported branches can be expected to sag & pinch the blade. If the branch is heavy enough this pinching will stop the blade & the gears will strip. The cost of replacing the gears is essentially the same as the cost of replacing the entire unit.

Silky Telescoping Landscaping Pole Saw HAYAUCHI 390 12-Feet 177-39 Review

Silky Telescoping Landscaping Pole Saw HAYAUCHI 390 12-Feet 177-39
Average Reviews:

This Silky pole saw is like performing surgery. It is made in Japan of high quality material. I never knew a pole saw could be of such quality. I cut through a 6" oak limb in seconds. . . smaller limbs with 2-3 strokes. My advice: spend the $$$ . . . it should last a lifetime, but select model carefully, according to your cutting needs. Wide toothed saws don't work too well on flimsy small branches. If most of your home gardening work is on small branches, get a saw with finer teeth. I'm sure it will still cut beautifully. The large toothed models are designed for larger limbs. I cut even small limbs effectively . . . if I cut at a point close to a larger limb which offered support. You could cut down a large tree with these Silky saws. The telescoping pole is oval, super-strong, and solid. The rubber covered lower section offers exceptional comfort. I can't recommend this Silky saw highly enough.
As for the vendor, after I called them and asked them to ship as early as possible, theY got it out ahead of listed shipping time!

Silky HOOK-FOX Accessory For Landscaping Pole Saws HAYATE HAYAUCHI LONGBOY & ZUBAT 425-01 Review

Silky HOOK-FOX Accessory For Landscaping Pole Saws HAYATE HAYAUCHI LONGBOY and ZUBAT 425-01
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Hook Fox can mount to a Silky pole saw in two ways: across the short axis of the pole saw (for all saws except the Hayauchi) or through the long axis (which is required for the Hayauchi). The hook itself is made of two separate, stamped, and plated sections, held together with rivets. The bolt holes that must be used when mounting the hook to the Hayauchi are formed from the two halves, and are simply pinched together by the rivets about 1/2" away from the holes (the three rivets in a row). On mine, this caused, after not what I would consider extraordinary use, the nuts to pull through the holes, spreading the two halves of the hook apart, popping those rivets nearest to the holes. This caused the holes (really two halves of holes, as I've explained) to become deformed, and I can not re-attach the hook in the intended fashion.
It's a silly design flaw, and I'm sure this explains why, even though this hook is supposed to fit all of the Silky pole saws, they make a separate hook for the Hayauchi alone, which is not formed from two pieces. Unfortunately, that other hook does not have the returns on the top side, which are useful for pushing branches or rope.
Silky Saws are great, but this particular design is very disappointing.

I recently picked up this item at my local hardware store, and found it extremely lightweight. The Fiskers pruning blade is very SHARP. Extending the pole to its max did not stress the fiberglass pole one bit. But like a fiberglass fishing pole, it did create some BOUNCing action while sawing. None the less, the job got done! Suggestion, after you are done pruning, give it a spray with Pam Cooking Spray then store. I also found the branch shears very useful for those limbs less than 1" in diameter. One pull on the rope cut these little guys with ease. However I would want the rope attached to the shears a little shorter.

Corona Clipper TP 6850 14-Foot Compound Action 1-1/4-Inch Capacity Tree Pruner Review

Corona Clipper TP 6850 14-Foot Compound Action 1-1/4-Inch Capacity Tree Pruner
Average Reviews:

This is the 3rd or fourth tree pruner I've owned, and I'd never get any other. I have previously used and wore out a gas-powered and an electric drive chain pruner. This Corona is batter than all of them.
The extra length of the pole is critical. With this pruner I can reach all the tree limbs I used to get from standing at the top of a ladder and then using a pole pruner.
The blade is incredibly sharp. It cuts straight through branches that my power pruners used to wheeze and struggle with. Using this Corona is also faster than any other pruner I've had. I think that's also a result of the sharpness.
The chain pull-mechanism (as opposed to a rope and pulley) works beautifully. I expect that's another component in why this is easier and faster to use. Once in a while, the chain loops around itself and jams, but that's rare, and is probably a result of the way I manipulate the pruner around branches.
I am a VERY heavy and high volume user of pruners. I wear them out, or they fall apart, or their motors burn out. But not this one! There's no sign of wear and tear. I recommend this tool to anyone who is serious about trimming and pruning their own trees.

I gasped when I first saw the price, but after reading many excellent reviews, I decided to bite the bullet and buy the 20 ft Hayate pole saw.
The day it arrived, I couldn't wait to try it - WOW! I cut 4-5" branches, hanging over my home with very little effort. I am in my 60's and was concerned about the weight, but this saw has been a pleasure to work with. I feel safe, standing on the ground and find it very easy to prune large limbs.
The silky people stress, "let the saw do the work". This saw works on the PULL, not on the push, which makes is effortless.
Although this is probably designed for professional arborists, if you have a lot of trees and wind/ice as I do in New England, buy it!

Silky Telescoping Landscaping Pole Saw HAYAUCHI 390 16-Feet 178-39 Review

Silky Telescoping Landscaping Pole Saw HAYAUCHI 390 16-Feet 178-39
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I looked long and hard for a good pole saw. I tried the typical hardware store saws with the cord operated lopper. ($60) The round steel handle had way too much flex and it was so heavy at the blade end, I'd only want to use it a few minutes at a time. Next I tried the type with the mini chainsaw at the top. Even worse. Arm fatigue was killing me. And the cutting, very slow.
Finally I bought the Silky. Unbelievable! This saw is so light, I can work for hours. I live on 11 acres in the forest. I limb up the pines and firs for forest fire mitigation. Over the last two years, I have limbed a couple hundred trees (a few thousand limbs) with the silky. The blade is incredibly sharp and thin. This is typical of Japanese cutting tools. It will glide through a three inch fir branch in a dozen strokes.
But, as with all Japanese saws, force does not make it work better. This saw requires a very light touch and it will go through just about anything. Which is good, because it lowers your fatigue level. If you try to add force, you will cause the handle to bow and the blade can bounce out of the cut. This is a user problem, not the saw's. Cutting something 20 feet above your head is not the time to be impatient.
The build quality is very nearly bulletproof. The handle locks are easy to use and rock solid. Not once have they failed. The handle is oval shaped in cross-section, which gives this saw a wonderful stiffness when extended, compared to others I've used. After two years of moderately heavy use, the blade still cuts like new. Again, not surprising when you consider that the Japanese had steel figured out before the Mayflower landed. Just look at those Samurai swords from 400 years ago.
Considering the one-star negative review from another user, I would suggest that the company send instructions with the saw. Japanese saws work on the pull stroke, which is lighter and more accurate than our western saws, (which we push). This is a difficult concept for westerners to grasp. But once you get the feel of it, it works like a charm. The act of buying a good tool doesn't automatically make you a craftsman. But this beautiful instrument will teach you what it wants, and if you pay attention and learn, it will outperform any other pole saw you can buy. Maybe it's a zen thing.

The aluminum alloy extension pole is oval shaped, giving precise control to the direction of the saw blade (especially important for high cutting) and also giving strength and rigidity to the pole, reducing bending to the minimum. Fiskars 9301 Power-Lever 14-Foot Tree Pruner Review

Fiskars 9301 Power-Lever 14-Foot Tree Pruner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I went looking for a pole saw because branches were rubbing on my roof and hitting my gutters. I found a few at a local hardware store, which the salesperson described as hard to use, then he tried to steer me toward buying either an electric or gas-powered pole-mounted chainsaw. I don't trim trees often, so I wanted to avoid the expense of and maintenance on a chainsaw. However, the manual pole saws they carried were all a brand I had never heard of, heavier than I wanted, and priced comparably with this Fiskars, so I decided to buy it from Amazon. I was pleased that this saw was significantly lighter, and that the replaceable Woodzig blade is an aggressive cutter -- it doesn't require a lot of weight on the blade, although I found a rapid jab-tug worked best to keep branches from swaying back and forth. I also debated buying the model that's just a saw, but having the pruner for smaller branches (which aren't stiff enough to saw efficiently) is well worth the extra money and weight. I haven't used this tool long enough to speak definitively about how the extension lock holds up over time, but I found it easy to use and it did not slip. This tool was much easier to use than expected, and I have no doubts that the decision to order this model rather than what the local store stocked was a good one.
I also want to make an observation based on other pole saw reviews I've read. I've read complaints about blades binding and how dangerous falling branches are, leading me to suspect that people were sawing on branches directly above them. That's not how you should use a pole saw; you should extend it so that you're standing off to the side and cut on the top of branches rather than their side. This technique results in the weight of the branch opening your cut rather than pinching the blade, and when the branch falls you aren't underneath it.

Silky 179-39 Telescoping Landscaping Pole Saw HAYAUCHI 390 21-Feet Review

Silky 179-39 Telescoping Landscaping Pole Saw HAYAUCHI 390 21-Feet
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I spent significant time researching extension pole saws that I could use to prune the many hard and softwood trees on my property without incurring the expense of a professional tree company. I was impressed by the 21' Silky Hayauchi but very skeptical about its ability to cut branches at this distance off the ground. I was also skeptical of my ability at age 66 to physically handle this saw at such an extreme height. I called the Silky Store and spoke to a representative regarding my concerns. They advised that I would not experience any problems as long as I engaged the double locking system on each pole extension and allowed the saw to do the work. They explained that the blade was designed to cut only on the pull stroke and that gravity would provide most of the required cutting force. The effort required on the push stroke would be minimal since no cutting occurs on the up stroke. Based on their advice and the Silky guaranty I purchased the 21' Hayauchi pole saw. I received it in 2 days! I was totally amazed with the incredible performance of this very high quality saw. I easily cut large limbs at least 20' or more off the ground. The guideance received from the Silky Store representative combined with my actual experience with this superior quality tool was very impressive. I intend to purchase additional Silky saws from the Silky Store.

The Hayauchi pole saw has rigid aluminum poles that quickly extend to desired cutting length. The base pole has a comfortable rubber grip. The extension lock with spring loaded buttons at the end of each length. The nearly 16-inch blade not only sports the largest teeth available in a razor tooth design, but has a sharpened base and tip for scoring the branch, to avoid ripping damage to the branch collar. The upper sickle is used to cut vines; the lower one - to undercut bark allowing a clean cut without damaging the tree. The aluminum alloy extension pole is oval shaped, giving precise control to the direction of the saw blade (especially important for high cutting) and also giving strength and rigidity to the pole, reducing bending to the minimum. Push buttons allow multiple length adjustments and safety clamps hold the extensions firmly in place. A rubber hand-grip ensures good hold and control. The blade is adjustable for lower or higher cutting.Replacement parts list (340K pdf file)Product Features: 3-Extensions (4 poles) model that extends to 21 feetExtension range 7'-8" to 21' Maximum working reach 25 feet 15.35" (390mm) length chrome plated blade with 5.5 teeth per inch (6.5 teeth per 30mm) Approximate weight 6.73lbg (3000g) A lightweight and rigid aluminum oval shaped pole Double lock system insures your safety while working Comes with its own full length, hard plastic scabbard Limited lifetime warranty against defects in material and workmanshipDo not use this item near electrical hazards.

I bought a Fiskars 6' pruning stick had had terrible time with it and bought another one and it went back also. I then bought the Corona 6' Power Glide stick Pruner and I must say it is the best of the 2 by far. Corona pruners and trimmers have been the best graded garden tools for a long long time. I never should have doubted there reputation and instead of buying a sleek and cool looking fiskars pruning stick I should have just bought the one brand that makes the best tools. I have about three (3) pairs of Corona trimmers in my shed and I have one of my grandfathers Corona trimmers as well. Do yourself a big favor and bypass the sleek looks of the Fiskars pruners and buy the best and stick with a company that has been the staple brand for landscapers, yard men, Nurserymen, and horticulturist for decades. I am a professional Sharpener and I mostly sharpen Knives and Scissors but in the spring I sharpen pruners and lopers for a lot of professional nurserymen as well a regular homeowners. I also sell knives and scissors and I have to tell you that after Fiskars bought the Gerber Knife and tool company the quality took a nose dive and now I refuse to sharpen any Fiskars or Gerber product.
