I recieved this chainsaw as a gift. My father made fun of it..said it looked like a toy. This chainsaw proved him wrong. I trimmed off several large tree branches and also cut down a medium sized pine tree with this mighty little chainsaw. My only complaint is that the battery does not last as long as I would like. After several weekends of tree pruning the chain is dull but not unexpected after the amount of use. I do recommend this product.

I've grown to depend on this little saw and use it as much as my gas saw. It's important to use a (silver) One+ battery - else you'll have complaints like the other reviewers - but with the more powerful battery the saw has a surprisingly long run.
My 11 year old son works with me clearing our property and I'm contemplating buy a second one of these saws.
It's light, it's quiet, it's safe.

Greenworks 20602 20-Volt Lithium Ion 10-Inch Cordless Electric Chain Saw (No Battery or Charger) Review

Greenworks 20602 20-Volt Lithium Ion 10-Inch Cordless Electric Chain Saw (No Battery or Charger)
Average Reviews:

This is my first chainsaw. I have a friend who is happy to come over with his gas-powered monster for the heavy duty stuff. I wanted a light-duty saw so I don't need to call on my friend for the little stuff. The Greenworks model is perfect for me. I can take care of reasonably thick branches and use it on logs that just don't want to split. It's not exactly like a hot knife through butter, but it gets the job done. I was a little worried about oiling the chain, and making a big mess, but the built-in reservoir does a good job and hardly leaks at all.
I wanted to go lithium-ion because it's the best battery technology today--if it's good enough for a Tesla roadster, it's good enough for my chainsaw! But Amazon didn't have the charger, nor could I find it anywhere else. Long story short, I called the Greenworks service dpt and they were able to send me one right away. So I got my charger, my battery, and my saw, and I've been using it all summer. It's a good product. The battery has enough juice to assist my log splitting for about 45 minutes.. Overall it's a bit pricier than the NiCad battery products, but of course the battery works in my Greenworks leaf blower too, so its not bad amortized over multiple tools. I expect it to last longer than NiCads, too.

Black & Decker FireStorm 18 Volt FS18RS Cordless Reciprocating Saw (Bare tool - No Battery) Review

Black and Decker FireStorm 18 Volt FS18RS Cordless Reciprocating Saw (Bare tool - No Battery)
Average Reviews:

This is a really handy saw to have around, especially if you already have Black & Decker 18V slide-style batteries. I also have the Black & Decker 18V string trimmer, blower, hedge trimmer, jigsaw, and 2 drills, all of which I really like. It's nice to be able to use the same batteries for all my tools. Firestorm and Black & Decker 18V batteries are pretty much interchangeable, or at least the ones I have are. This recip saw does a good job cutting through tree limbs. I've used it to cut branches up to 4" in diameter, and it worked just fine. And it works well on 2x4's too.
You could buy a more powerful saw, but you would either have to deal with the inconvenience of the power cord, or the added expense of buying different batteries and charger if you went with the Dewalt for example. To buy a Dewalt 18V will run you $200.00 for a kit with a battery and charger. No thanks! I don't need to demolish buildings or cut through 1/8" think steel, so my Firestorm recip saw will do just fine.

If you prune only a few branches a year, this may be adequate. Anything more, you will be screaming with each use. The cutting mechanism gets jammed with each pull of the rope. Black & Decker 18-Volt Cordless Pole Chain Saw, 8-Inch Bar #NPP2018
I didn't find a reference anywhere that it would work on the battery powered saw, but I figured since it said 8" that I'd try it. I don't know why they don't have a replacement chain recommendation. This one works.
I use Oregon chain on my other bigger saw and I'm happy with the manufacturer.

Earthwise CCS30008 18-Volt 8-Inch Cordless Chain Saw Review

Earthwise CCS30008 18-Volt 8-Inch Cordless Chain Saw
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a terrific tool. I tried two Black and Decker cordless 8" chainsaws and sent both back because they leaked oil all over the chassis and battery. But I did use the first one for an hour and can compare these two brands.
First the cons: The Earthwise is less powerful and lighter, so you have to use more of your own weight to operate it, and it takes a little longer to cut through larger wood (say 6"). Because of the power issue, it's less likely to give you a clean cut without applying some pressure to the cutting edge.
The B&D manual is more informative; Earthwise needs to work on that. If you've never used a chainsaw, you will need some instruction other than the Earthwise manual. These are minor flaws for me, ones I can live with.
We own 5 acres, and are trying to clean up a couple that are full of small, thorny scrub trees and bushes. I'm small, female, and 63 so the larger gasoline saws are no longer usable by me. But most of the wood that needs cutting is in the 3-4" range and this little saw handles it very well. It's light enough for me to be able to cut at all angles. Safety requires that you use two hands always on a chainsaw but in my view, you'd better be ABLE to manage with one hand just in case you get caught on something. This one's light enough that I feel safe using it, a huge issue for me. I will repeat one line from the Earthwise manual because it's so important: Familiarity with a tool should not lull you into a sense of security (I paraphrased there). Even with a saw this small, safety needs to be first on your mind.
Black and Decker vs, Earthwise:
Battery life is longer: The B&D ran out of juice after an hour; the Earthwise was still going strong at 1 1/2 hours.
B&D is manual oil -- push a button to oil the chain before every cut. The oil reservoir was depleted in that time span. The Earthwise is automatic and oil use is much less.
The power switch can be released after the trigger is pulled on the Earthwise. I'm not positive but I THINK you have to hold that button to keep the B&D saw running. I prefer the security of one finger on the trigger while the others hold the handle. However, the B&D chain stops on trigger release; the Earthwise coasts.
B&D comes unassembled; Earthwise is ready to go; just add oil.
Earthwise is a little cheaper; nothing wrong with that.
I can't report on reliability or service life but I love this little guy and highly recommend it to anyone who's cutting jobs are small. Though the manual says you can cut up to 8", that's really pushing it. But for trimming up trees, taking out saplings, or dealing with deadwood, this is perfect. The only reason it got four stars instead of five is due to it's tendency to shred the cut unless you apply some effort -- again, not a big issue for me, but sloppy cuts aren't what you want in landscaping.

This item, Black & Decker NLP1800 Alligator Lopper 18-Volt Cordless Chain Saw, has lots of potential. It cuts the branches well, even fairly thick ones.
The problems: 1) Battey life...easy fix, get a spare battery... 2) requires frequet oiling 3) This is the worst problem I see, but possible a deal break: the top chain guard can very easily get postioned were it rubs the chain, creating wear and eating a whole in the guard..
Overall: I would say worth $75-99, but would not give over $100 for it again untill the above bugs are corrected.

I'll start by saying I've only used this pole saw a few times but it works great! The battery easily pops off to move between it and the trimmer/edger I purchased from the same company. The oil compartment doesn't hold much so poor slowly! Also, there isn't a perpendicular handle to hold the shaft but a foam grip which isn't as comfortable, but is very doable.
I tried to attach the trimmer main shaft to the saw shaft because it has a perpendicular handle but they are not compatible. Still I cut a huge limb/trunk off one of my trees pretty quickly. It only threw the chain once when I tried to cut too big of a limb at its thickest point near the main trunk. Just cut several shallow cuts around huge limbs and it will cut them. The chain was easy to put back on the sprocket, just be ready to soak the oil up that coats around the chain when you remove the cover. the manual has pictures and labels all of the parts.
With all of the poles it's pretty tall. Reaching almost above me (5'10") I was able to cut limbs almost two stories up. It's much better than my older Ryobi.

Remington RM1015P 10-Inch 8 Amp Electric Pole Saw Review

Remington RM1015P 10-Inch 8 Amp Electric Pole Saw
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have used a gas pole saw by Husqvarna in the past so I am familiar with these saws. Overall this product is decent. It doesn't cut as sweet as the Husqvarna but it gets the job done. The older reviews in this sequence are for an outdated model that they no longer sell. They fixed most of the problems that people reported below. The latest saw has a hex shaped pole so you can identify it as the latest version. I would recommend this saw for light duty sawing only.
Don't think that because this saw is electric with lots of plastic that it is light and easy to maneuver. Extended fully out it takes some strength to use. The Husqvarna is only 6 feet long and lighter, but 3 feet shorter than the longer reach of the Remington. The Husqvarna also sells for 5 times more than the cost of the Remington which makes the Remington a bargain.
What makes this saw clumsy to use is the motor location. For example, the Husqvarna has the motor located below your hands. The saw is driven by a gear internal to the pole. That feature is also its limitation, in that the length is not adjustable. With most of the weight positioned below your hands the saw is easy to manipulate. But for the Remington, the motor is at the end of the pole. That puts the balance point at the wrong end which makes it harder to maneuver when fully extended. Set to 6 feet it's not bad. Some of the battery operated pole saws put the weight at the bottom where it should be and could also be a consideration.
My only real complaint about this saw is the oiler which didn't work well. Since I'm experienced with chain saws I could see that the amount of oil feed on the chain after repeated pumping was still inadequate. I investigated this later and opened the hole a bit in the plastic oil reservoir which helped. To do this you have to take the chain off. Be careful to put the chain back on the correct way when you're finished. They are not universal with respect to direction. Always use bar chain oil and not motor oil. I had no problems with my oil cap or leakage.
Most do-it-yourselfer's don't pay enough attention to safety with these tools and the instructions included don't emphasize that enough. You should treat this tool like a gas-operated tool. I strongly suggest buying at minimum the helmet that is made by Husqvarna with the built in face shield and ear cups. Trust me even with experience my helmet has saved my head while using a pole saw. A lot of the time you stand under the branch you are cutting, and the inevitable can happen. Second and optionally, I would recommend the Husqvarna leather gloves. It helps griping the tool and protects your hands from dings and from bugs and spiders when later moving the cut pieces.
With a gas model and for serious cutting I would also recommend the chaps and safety shoes. The Remington also does not have anti-kickback protection built in like most gas model chain saws do, and it also does not have a built in chain brake when you release the trigger like most gas models do. That's why I wouldn't recommend using just the chain saw part of this for serious cutting. I say this because many will use this saw without the pole as a regular chain saw. For serious cutting, this saw doesn't even compete with a gas model chain saw for cutting through thick tree limbs, and a gas model will have all the safety features built in. Use it for what it was intended for and you should be ok.

I have had to replace my chain once so far and found it impossible to find them locally. Some online prices and availability are OK but the shipping really dings you. I found one online hardware site that had reasonable shipping plus a decent discount so I bought two replacements there. My original chain's life was shortened somewhat by letting someone else borrow the Alligator (they got some dirt in the chain by cutting too close to the ground) as well as my cutting of some trees that were in excess of 6" in diameter. I have no real complaints about the quality just the price and availability. I still think the Alligator is a fantastic tool.

This is a nice small branch trimmer. Its downfall is the chain oil is gravity feed onto the chain and leaks consistently. Wherever you store the chainsaw will get oil underneath. I'd give it 5 stars if they fixed that issue.I'm still pleased with the purchase and have learned to deal with the oil problem by simply carrying a small squirt bottle of oil and adding it directly to the chain, bypassing the leaky oil chamber.

I bought a Fiskars 6' pruning stick had had terrible time with it and bought another one and it went back also. I then bought the Corona 6' Power Glide stick Pruner and I must say it is the best of the 2 by far. Corona pruners and trimmers have been the best graded garden tools for a long long time. I never should have doubted there reputation and instead of buying a sleek and cool looking fiskars pruning stick I should have just bought the one brand that makes the best tools. I have about three (3) pairs of Corona trimmers in my shed and I have one of my grandfathers Corona trimmers as well. Do yourself a big favor and bypass the sleek looks of the Fiskars pruners and buy the best and stick with a company that has been the staple brand for landscapers, yard men, Nurserymen, and horticulturist for decades. I am a professional Sharpener and I mostly sharpen Knives and Scissors but in the spring I sharpen pruners and lopers for a lot of professional nurserymen as well a regular homeowners. I also sell knives and scissors and I have to tell you that after Fiskars bought the Gerber Knife and tool company the quality took a nose dive and now I refuse to sharpen any Fiskars or Gerber product.

Using this on my 18volt cordless chain saw, it's a low kick back saw, and cordless chain saw are low rpm to begin with, so I guess that " MADE IN CHINA" part doesn't bother me, keep it well lube, before during and after each use, put ptfe dri-film on it befor putting on new sets, for around the house maintance, not a professional saw for sure. And remember to clean it up, it do get stuck easily when batteries are low.
