(More customer reviews)These switches are a great way to put a night light in areas where an outlet isn't available, like a stairwell, and also for a more streamlined look than a plug-in night light. They are bright and illuminate areas very well. Probably too bright for a bedroom; although the outlet model would probably be ok there, since the installation would be below eye level. One note: these require hot, neutral and ground wire connections to be available.

(More customer reviews)A high tech solution to control just about any light - I installed mine to control the exterior lights in front of my house. The overall quality of the switch is excellent, and it is fairly easy to program.
I had another timer switch (different brand) before this one, but the quality was poor and it actually stopped working within 12 months of installation. The Leviton switch has no moving parts, so I expect it to last for several years.
The switch can be programmed to turn on and off several times a day, if desired. There is also a button to manually turn on/off the light being controlled.
The only possible limitation of this switch is that it cannot program on/off times for different days of the week. If you don't need this feature, then I highly recommend this switch.

(More customer reviews)Had a couple of these timers installed for approx 2 months, and after a power outage, they simply failed to turn the lights on, even in the manual-override mode (yes, I checked whether the light bulbs were burnt out or not). Turns out, there was mega-ohms of resistance through the wires when the device was turned on in manual mode; something burnt out in both of my timers. Returned to the store, and purchased a different brand.

(More customer reviews)This programmable timer wall switch works great. We use it to turn on and off a heated towel rack in the bathroom. Had to hit the reset button after first application of power (didn't see that in the instructions, but it may have been there). Took a bit to figure out the programming, but after that, it was a breeze. 20 different programs that can be set for either every day, work week days, weekend days or single days gives you a tremendous variety of options. There is also a random setting. The Countdown timer program could be explained better. Also allows use with 3 way switch circuits if desired.
All in all we are very satisfied. Will probably consider adding a few more to control some outside lights.

The ZIP-set feature is especially useful if you use it to control outdoor lighting - it calculates the sunset time and turns on automatically at dusk. No more manual resets throughout the year. Installation is easy and the instructions are clear. It switches compact fluorescent (CF) bulbs.
However read this VERY CAREFULLY before you purchase this switch: it needs to be connected to a NEUTRAL wire. Many 2-pole light switches only switch the hot wire of the circuit and you may not be able to find the necessary neutral wire to connect this. Look into your junction box to confirm the presence of the neutral wire if you are replacing and existing switch. If you find only 2 wires of the same color connected to and around the old switch, you probably won't be able to swap in this one (or any other CF-capable digital timer switch) without rewiring the circuit.

Immediately found it to be unreliable due to extreme sensitivity (understatement) to lightning which knocked unit off line (blinking display)3 or 4 times. All wiring properly/securely installed. After most recent incident, unit will turn lights on but WILL NOT turn them off. Removing/replacing unit today, hopefully with non-digital (elec motor driven)type.

Aube by Honeywell TI071/U Solar Time Table, Programmable Timer Switch, White Review

(More customer reviews)I've actually been pretty lucky with the Interlink SS7C timer switch I was using. I had two of the Interlink SS7C timers located in the house and they both lasted quite over three years which apparently is a lot longer than most folks have had success. However, I had one completely die a few months ago and then had the second one display the typical problems with the "No Op" issue. So, time to replace it!
I researched other Interlink switches and also came across this Aube. The other flush mount Interlink switch that could be an option cannot handle CFL bulbs.
Five huge benefits to the Aube TI071/U vs the Interlink SS7C:
1) It is flush with the wall (the Interlink SS7C sticks out a good inch from the wall)
2) It is quiet turning on and off (the Interlink SS7C is very noisy due to the manual motor it has inside)
3) It is back-lit (the Interlink SS7C is not backlit and has a super small display)
4) It does not require batteries (the Interlink SS7C requires a double-A battery and as you will see in various reviews, it has connection problems and causes the switch to fail often)
5) You can have it auto program based on your latitude and longitude.
I am sure there is a 6th benefit in that it is probably a lot more reliable than the Interlink, but I can't say that currently since I've only had it for a few days.
A 7th benefit (compared to the other Interlink switches) is that this switch can handle any type of light bulb.
Well worth getting this switch and avoiding the Interlink switches.

I still love this switch. It has been very reliable -- no problems so far. I also just love the way it looks and operates. I hate ugly looking devices and this one does not disappoint.
I have it set up in "travel" mode and unlike other switches where it will just randomly turn the lights on and off _once_ during a set time period, this switch will randomly turn the lights on and off multiple times during a set time period. This way it is even harder to tell if someone is home. Just realize that if you use this mode and you are in the room during this time period, the light may turn off while you are in the room. ;-)

(More customer reviews)Purchased ST01AC for the porch light and it works great. Instructions are good, easy to install and program. Even comes with a quick program instruction sheet so you can have it working in minutes. I replaced a single pole switch with it but it can be used with a 3 way switch also. Can be set for the new DST and can even be adjusted. i.e.: I set it to come on at Dusk but I advanced the sunset time 15 minuets so it comes on 15 minuets after sunset (saves about 2 hrs. burn time a week) then turn off at a certain time rather than burn all night and turn off at sunrise, which it can also do. Overall a good switch for the money, I would buy another one and I just might for the driveway lights.

Aube by Honeywell TI070-3W/U ECONO Switch Programmable Timer Switch, White Review

(More customer reviews)The timer works as most people have already discussed in their reviews, and is great because no other timer I have found will control compact fluorescent bulbs (CFL's). However, please be VERY careful wiring it.
A distinction that should be clarified is that this TI070 model must have a load OVER 40 watts in order to function. If you are controlling CFL's (as I am) that is more than 3 bulbs since a 60W incandescent equivalent draws just 13 watts. I actually had to add a fourth bulb to bring the total load from 39 watts to 52 watts (slightly wasteful). However, the TI071 model can handle loads less than 40 watts according to the instructions. But, apparently that model requires a neutral wire, which the TI070 model does NOT.
So, to summarize:
TI070 model: Needs a load of at least 40 watts, does NOT need a neutral wire connection
TI071 model: Can handle a smaller load below 40 watts, DOES need a neutral wire connection

UPDATE (8/1/10): I also recently bought a TI071 model (for loads below 40 watts) and it also works great. I am very pleased with these products because they can control CFL bulbs, and with our high electric rates here in CA, that is important.

I bought this to control a ceiling fan in my bathroom and it caused it to buzz/humm. It was very annoying and unacceptable. The fan is a standard type of 3 speed fan with a pull chain, not the electronic speed/remote control type.
I ended up buying an Intermatic brand switch that has the rotary knob and it works perfect.

(More customer reviews)I had to replace the old rusty Intermatic timer for the pool motor, and came across this SA310 model. This is the nicest low cost digital model that I found. After using it for a couple months it works great! The buttons feel nice and overall has a well-built solid feel to the unit. I think this will last for many years. However there is one thing I wish it had (the reason for 4 stars on the review instead of 5): you can set 4 different custom timers, but you can only choose one of these modes at a time so the device will only turn on and off one time per day. In other words you can't turn something on at 2pm turn it off at 3pm then back on again at 5 pm and off again at 6pm. That's impossible with this unit; instead there's only one on/off cycle, but you can manually switch between 4 of these cycles (plus the zip set and random settings). Other than this minor gripe about this missing feature, it is a wonderful timer.

Simple One-Step SetupWith innovative Zip-Set Technology, the SA310 Zip-Set Time Switch can be programmed to turn on lights at sunset by simply entering your area code. For further convenience, a daylight saving switch keeps the time current, and you can also set the amount of time your lights remain on.
Programming Options to Meet Your NeedsThe SA310 Zip-Set Time Switch offers four additional independent on and off settings, as well as a random control option. Ideal for when a space is vacant, the random setting makes it look as if someone is in the space controlling your lights.
For manual control, simply press the on/off button located on the front of the timer. You can also use the 7-5-2 feature, which allows you to set times based on the full seven-day full, five-day work week, or two-day weekend.

- Clear installation instructions.

- Informative display.
- Built-in rechargeable backup battery; no need to replace disposable batteries.
- Works well with LED bulbs (I am using an INCU7W 7W LED bulb). See below.
Cons:
- Pricey (I have seen timers for about $25).
- No long-term experience with the built-in rechargeable battery.
- Display is difficult to read unless the backlight is on.
Notes:
1. If you want to use the automatic sunset/sunrise time to control a load, you need to perform 3 steps: program the time/date, set your latitude and longitude, and finally set one on/off event.
2. My previous timer, an Intermatic EJ500 timer, did not turn off the power completely when it should have been off. This problem became evident when I replaced an incandescent bulb with a LED bulb. The LED bulb would blink every few seconds while the timer was in the "off" position. I did not notice it when I used an incandescent bulb because the latter needs much more power to generate light than the LED bulb. The blinking did not consume much power, but many guests told me that my light is burnt out. The problem was rectified by installing the Leviton VPT24.
