Milwaukee 2602-22 M18 18-Volt Cordless 1/2-Inch Hammer Drill/Driver Kit Review

Milwaukee 2602-22 M18 18-Volt Cordless 1/2-Inch Hammer Drill/Driver Kit

I recently purchased the Milwaukee M18 Hammer/Drill/Driver mainly because of the Brand integrity but also because I was tired of carrying many extra batteries that ran out of juice too soon. This one surprised me, completely. I'm more of a weekend project warrior and this one completed many tasks that I normally would use my old Black & Decker in combination with an electric drill. I actually used this drill for 3 days before I broke out the second battery for the first time. And the available power and torque is amazing, far surpassing the capabilities of even my electric drill. One should note that two hands should be used when you know it will be a tough job because the torque of this lightweight monster could put a serious hurt on your wrist. Now I'm looking to replace ALL my cordless tools with the M18 Family. The M18 6.5 inch circular saw is next on my list. Yeah, they cost more than most of your average tools, but the benefits far outweigh and are totally worth it.

M18 Lithium-Ion Power: Compact, Lightweight, and DependableCordless power frees you from the hassle of extension cords, but a cordless tool is only as reliable as its battery--that's where Milwaukee's M18 XC High-Capacity LITHIUM-ION batteries come in. Engineered to deliver torque, speed, and extended runtime, these batteries make use of Milwaukee's trademarked Digital Power Management technology to ensure long battery life. Additionally, overload protection, a temperature management system, and individual cell voltage monitoring guard your battery and your tools during tough jobs.
A convenient power gauge on each battery displays remaining runtime, and a second battery is included with the kit, so you never have to worry about running out of power in the middle of a task. Plus the M18 LITHIUM-ION battery charger is designed to recharge batteries in one hour or less.
Since lithium-ion batteries are significantly smaller and lighter than 18-volt NiCad batteries, they play an integral role in keeping Milwaukee's M18 tools ergonomic and comfortable to use. For added versatility, M18 tools also work with even lighter M18 Compact LITHIUM-ION Batteries (not included).

Earthwise CCS30008 18-Volt 8-Inch Cordless Chain Saw Review

Earthwise CCS30008 18-Volt 8-Inch Cordless Chain Saw
Average Reviews:

This is a terrific tool. I tried two Black and Decker cordless 8" chainsaws and sent both back because they leaked oil all over the chassis and battery. But I did use the first one for an hour and can compare these two brands.
First the cons: The Earthwise is less powerful and lighter, so you have to use more of your own weight to operate it, and it takes a little longer to cut through larger wood (say 6"). Because of the power issue, it's less likely to give you a clean cut without applying some pressure to the cutting edge.
The B&D manual is more informative; Earthwise needs to work on that. If you've never used a chainsaw, you will need some instruction other than the Earthwise manual. These are minor flaws for me, ones I can live with.
We own 5 acres, and are trying to clean up a couple that are full of small, thorny scrub trees and bushes. I'm small, female, and 63 so the larger gasoline saws are no longer usable by me. But most of the wood that needs cutting is in the 3-4" range and this little saw handles it very well. It's light enough for me to be able to cut at all angles. Safety requires that you use two hands always on a chainsaw but in my view, you'd better be ABLE to manage with one hand just in case you get caught on something. This one's light enough that I feel safe using it, a huge issue for me. I will repeat one line from the Earthwise manual because it's so important: Familiarity with a tool should not lull you into a sense of security (I paraphrased there). Even with a saw this small, safety needs to be first on your mind.
Black and Decker vs, Earthwise:
Battery life is longer: The B&D ran out of juice after an hour; the Earthwise was still going strong at 1 1/2 hours.
B&D is manual oil -- push a button to oil the chain before every cut. The oil reservoir was depleted in that time span. The Earthwise is automatic and oil use is much less.
The power switch can be released after the trigger is pulled on the Earthwise. I'm not positive but I THINK you have to hold that button to keep the B&D saw running. I prefer the security of one finger on the trigger while the others hold the handle. However, the B&D chain stops on trigger release; the Earthwise coasts.
B&D comes unassembled; Earthwise is ready to go; just add oil.
Earthwise is a little cheaper; nothing wrong with that.
I can't report on reliability or service life but I love this little guy and highly recommend it to anyone who's cutting jobs are small. Though the manual says you can cut up to 8", that's really pushing it. But for trimming up trees, taking out saplings, or dealing with deadwood, this is perfect. The only reason it got four stars instead of five is due to it's tendency to shred the cut unless you apply some effort -- again, not a big issue for me, but sloppy cuts aren't what you want in landscaping.

Black & Decker CCS818 18-Volt Cordless Electric Chain Saw Review

This is a nice small branch trimmer. Its downfall is the chain oil is gravity feed onto the chain and leaks consistently. Wherever you store the chainsaw will get oil underneath. I'd give it 5 stars if they fixed that issue.I'm still pleased with the purchase and have learned to deal with the oil problem by simply carrying a small squirt bottle of oil and adding it directly to the chain, bypassing the leaky oil chamber.

Using this on my 18volt cordless chain saw, it's a low kick back saw, and cordless chain saw are low rpm to begin with, so I guess that " MADE IN CHINA" part doesn't bother me, keep it well lube, before during and after each use, put ptfe dri-film on it befor putting on new sets, for around the house maintance, not a professional saw for sure. And remember to clean it up, it do get stuck easily when batteries are low.

Black & Decker NPP2018 18-Volt Cordless Electric Pole Chain Saw Review

I bought this because a professional arborist wanted $300 to prune the tree in front of the house. My job ain't as pretty, but I got it done. The saw works great on large branches. Not so much so on smaller branches that flex so it can't get a bite and ends up leaving splintered ends. For the cleanest job you'd want to use a pole trimmer on the small stuff. I'm hoping the leaves will just grow back and cover my imperfections.
Two things you need to know if, like me, you're inclined to just charge up the tool and go to work. #1 the chain needs frequent re-tightening during the first hours of use. (A little wrench is included to do this... very simple.) #2 don't forget to OIL THE CHAIN... something that's self-evident to people who've used a big chain saw but not intuitive to the rest of us.
