I've used Lutron dimmers for years and have over 10 in my current home so I have no issue with Lutron. My issue is with the package / marketing / and "saves at least 15% energy" statement. After installing it, my wife noticed you could not get full brightness from the bulbs. I quickly realized how they were able to make the "energy savings claim". So now I have to un-install, return this one, and get a normal dimmer. Granted, a "normal or non eco-dim" dimmer will still cut about 1% of voltage due to physics (heat loss) but it is a lot closer to full brightness than this one. The whole purpose of a dimmer is to be able to set your own brightness, full when I need full and dim when I need dim. The eco-dim dimmer has in essence put a governor on the switch. If I wanted to trully save energy, vice control brighness, I would have replaced the 65W bulbs with 45W bulbs and saved even more than 15%. Note: The very small asterisk * on "saves at least 15% energy*" is found on the package's back and states "when compared to a standard switch". Technically this is true, so the lawyers have them covered. After all, a standard switch allows full voltage. It should state "saves at least 15% energy because this switch only allows you to use 85% of available energy." I'm sure the Lutron engineers designed exactly what they were told to do, but shame on the marketing department for jumping on the "green" band wagon, right down to including a little green leaf picture on the package. If you really want to save energy, buy LED or CFC bulbs. If you want a dimmer, I'd recommend you stay away from this one and buy a normal or non eco-dim Lutron dimmer.
