Racor Pro PS-2R Two Pair Ski and Pole Rack Review

Racor Pro PS-2R Two Pair Ski and Pole Rack
Average Reviews:

Because this rack is so narrow most modern skis don't fit well. Of the 8 pairs of skis we have only one fits easily into the rack. Fat skis are too wide and thick skis are to thick. The clearance is about and 1 1/4 wide, depth is about 110mm. If your skis match this profile then these should work well. BTW- very easy to mount and sturdy.

Lutron MA-L3L3-WH Maestro 300 Watt Single Pole Dual Dimmer, White Review

Lutron MA-L3L3-WH Maestro 300 Watt Single Pole Dual Dimmer, White
Average Reviews:

...i did not. These Lutron products are great, but research on the Lutron website which switch you need for your fixtures. This one works best with typical line voltage incandesants. I did a kitchen renovation and added switches everywhere for better controls. I wanted this switch to avoid adding a second ganged switch, however the fixtures I'm powering are all low voltage with internal transformers. While they can be dimmed, Lutron has specific switches for thier transformer type - and none in the dual dimmer configuration. One switch and its fixtures work great, but the other switch and recessed cans need to be on high for about 5 minutes before dimming, otherwise they flicker on and off. This is not the switch's fault. I did not do my research. Also, FYI - no face plate is included. Great product and speedy service getting it!

Works beautifully. Easy to install and operate. Does a terrific job at what it is designed to do. The 8" bar does things like clearing heavy bushes/brush and trimming tree limbs with ease.
My only regret is that I waited way too long to buy this unit. I did a lot of this work over the years using small hand saws and heavy chain saws while standing on a ladder. This Pole saw makes the work a lot less tiring and definitely a lot safer.
Also note that Amazon.com has the absolute best price around for this Polesaw including Ebay which I use often.

Remington RM1015P 10-Inch 8 Amp Electric Pole Saw Review

Remington RM1015P 10-Inch 8 Amp Electric Pole Saw
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have used a gas pole saw by Husqvarna in the past so I am familiar with these saws. Overall this product is decent. It doesn't cut as sweet as the Husqvarna but it gets the job done. The older reviews in this sequence are for an outdated model that they no longer sell. They fixed most of the problems that people reported below. The latest saw has a hex shaped pole so you can identify it as the latest version. I would recommend this saw for light duty sawing only.
Don't think that because this saw is electric with lots of plastic that it is light and easy to maneuver. Extended fully out it takes some strength to use. The Husqvarna is only 6 feet long and lighter, but 3 feet shorter than the longer reach of the Remington. The Husqvarna also sells for 5 times more than the cost of the Remington which makes the Remington a bargain.
What makes this saw clumsy to use is the motor location. For example, the Husqvarna has the motor located below your hands. The saw is driven by a gear internal to the pole. That feature is also its limitation, in that the length is not adjustable. With most of the weight positioned below your hands the saw is easy to manipulate. But for the Remington, the motor is at the end of the pole. That puts the balance point at the wrong end which makes it harder to maneuver when fully extended. Set to 6 feet it's not bad. Some of the battery operated pole saws put the weight at the bottom where it should be and could also be a consideration.
My only real complaint about this saw is the oiler which didn't work well. Since I'm experienced with chain saws I could see that the amount of oil feed on the chain after repeated pumping was still inadequate. I investigated this later and opened the hole a bit in the plastic oil reservoir which helped. To do this you have to take the chain off. Be careful to put the chain back on the correct way when you're finished. They are not universal with respect to direction. Always use bar chain oil and not motor oil. I had no problems with my oil cap or leakage.
Most do-it-yourselfer's don't pay enough attention to safety with these tools and the instructions included don't emphasize that enough. You should treat this tool like a gas-operated tool. I strongly suggest buying at minimum the helmet that is made by Husqvarna with the built in face shield and ear cups. Trust me even with experience my helmet has saved my head while using a pole saw. A lot of the time you stand under the branch you are cutting, and the inevitable can happen. Second and optionally, I would recommend the Husqvarna leather gloves. It helps griping the tool and protects your hands from dings and from bugs and spiders when later moving the cut pieces.
With a gas model and for serious cutting I would also recommend the chaps and safety shoes. The Remington also does not have anti-kickback protection built in like most gas model chain saws do, and it also does not have a built in chain brake when you release the trigger like most gas models do. That's why I wouldn't recommend using just the chain saw part of this for serious cutting. I say this because many will use this saw without the pole as a regular chain saw. For serious cutting, this saw doesn't even compete with a gas model chain saw for cutting through thick tree limbs, and a gas model will have all the safety features built in. Use it for what it was intended for and you should be ok.

Fastcap 3HANDCPACK 3rd Hand Contractor Poles, 4-Pack Review

Fastcap 3HANDCPACK 3rd Hand Contractor Poles, 4-Pack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I, like many others liked the price. I own 8 Zip Wall poles and figured the 3rd Hand product would come in handy should I need more poles to create a barrier. I must state that my main reason for purchasing the 3rd Hand contractor pack was to aid me in a crown-molding job. I liked what I read about these units and it seemed like they would fit the bill with the square feet and all.
I will start by saying that the company must have had many complaints with the poles being used to put up plastic barriers. The box that mine came in show several different uses for the poles in line drawing form. The picture of the poles being used for plastic barriers was covered up suggesting the possibility that they received some grief from Zip Wall, or customers frustrated by the attempt to use them in place of Zip Walls.
Personally I find the 3rd hand product quite heavy and cumbersome to use for supporting plastic sheets. Especially when trying to get them up to 9 & ½ foot ceilings! I had to use duct tape to get the plastic that high. Second, after I jacked the pole up onto the main tee and moved onto the second pole, the first pole came crashing down behind me as I jacked the second pole a little too much causing loss of tension on the first. OK so the 3rd Hand failed to please me on plastic barriers on tall metal grid ceilings. Onto the next project.
For crown molding, the 3rd Hand is just that. They performed as expected. The slanting feet and square top plate kept the poles where I placed them. Laying the crown molding on top of the poles was a learning experience. When installing a 16' length of crown, you must place your ladder in the middle of the length so that you don't tip the center pole over or as in my first attempt, the 2 middle poles. Very noisy when they hit the floor. Once that lesson was behind me the rest of my 3rd Hand experience was non eventful.
Back to grid ceilings, the poles are nice for jacking up the grids to help in leveling and also holding fluorescent fixtures while replacing grid work on wall relocations. I also used all four poles to raise the ceiling enough to slide a completely dry walled section to a new location 4 feet away without getting hung up on the ceiling grid. Just had to be careful the all the poles had the same tension on them.
I agree with most other posters about the button problem. Very difficult to get them pushed in to raise or lower the pole. Raise the pole too high and you can't reach the jack handle. The solution there was to turn to pole upside down just to avoid readjustment with those button locks.
The weight of all four poles in the bag is amazingly heavy. 8 Zip Wall poles are half the weight and being all aluminum well balanced. The tension mechanism on the Zip Wall units is a pleasure to use over the 3rd Hand unit. In all fairness, Zip Wall poles are not very good to use for crown molding and too light to use for holding grid ceilings up. Each of these poles has their place. Used on a regular basis it is best to use what each one was designed for, or be aggravated by the lack of compatibility that each system exhibits.
I too have the same complaints about the storage bag being a few inches too small and lastly, would somebody please tell me what all the different bushings on the large plates are for? I'm still trying to figure out how the large feet attach. O NO! Not the directions!!! Still confused, I love my Zip Wall poles.

Black & Decker NPT318 18-Volt Cordless Electric Pole Hedge Trimmer Review

Black and Decker NPT318 18-Volt Cordless Electric Pole Hedge Trimmer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
That may seem like an odd title for a review on a Hedge trimmer but if you've read the review by "Frank" you'll understand. The NPT318 is an amazing machine.
I have the worst kind of hedges -tall 6-9feet, difficult to reach because of cramped space/sloping ground and encroaching citrus trees. The hedges are mainly bougainvillea which has awful thorns. The citrus have thorns too.It is hot and the hedges are overgrown because of record winter rains. In addition , I am not particularly strong. So, this is a good test situation.
Yes this machine is difficult to operate at full reach horizontaly, but the alternatives are worse. I have used a 2-cycle hedge trimmer - a viscious ,noisy ,stinky beast. It is heavier! I bought my Dad a 240volt (yes off the mains for use in U.K.) German pole hedge trimmer. It is more powerful but just as unwieldy .In addition you have the power cord to deal with.
I found the run time ideal - it still had plenty of charge after 45 minutes attacking the bougainvillea.By then I needed a rest anyway. I charged it during lunch and then attacked some more hedge. Some of this required me to use it at full stretch - I am 6ft with long arms +the pole -yes these are monster hedges. The machine worked perfectly. The alternative is wobbling on a step ladder ,juggling a power cord and trying to avoid the thorns. So far I've done all my hedges and the neighbor's without a scratch. It is far too hot to wear a shirt and using my old B&D with a power cord+ step ladder I would look like someone from a crucifiction scene in the movies by now. The combination of citrus and bougainvillea is bloody!
My suggestins to B&D to improve the NPT 318 are:
1.Increase the voltage from 18v to 24v. This will increase the run-time/decrease motor weight/increase power.
2.Make the battery and charger interchangeable with other B&D equipment.
3. Use lighter-weight metals(magnesium alloy?) for the blade and pole. The weight of the battery isn't a problem because of it's location on the handle.
4. Consider offering an extending pole like Remington use on their pole chain saws.
5. Design the NPT 318 so you can use it without the pole - like a conventional cordless hedge trimmer.
6. When Black & Decker have a prototype they can test it on my bougainvillea !:-)

The three piece pole is much stiffer than the collapsing ones making for better saw control. The saw teeth are a little aggressive making it difficult to trim a branch off another branch. It works fine for cutting limbs at the trunk. A fine toothed saw blade would be a good option.

ZipWall ZipPole ZP4 Low Cost Spring Loaded Pole, 4-Pack Kit with Carry Bag Review

ZipWall ZipPole ZP4 Low Cost Spring Loaded Pole, 4-Pack Kit with Carry Bag
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
These ZipPoles seemed like a great idea, but I'm upset by the low build quality of one of the components - the slider pieces (head piece, according to Zipwall's website). I don't doubt that other people are breaking these pieces with regularity when you consider that they sell replacement "head" pieces on their website. Here is my experience.
I was locking in plastic sheeting in one of the slider pieces during the first use and the slider piece broke. The slider pieces which you use to secure the plastic (or other barrier) is not made very well and is susceptible to bending/breaking. I would advise you to use as thin of plastic sheeting as possible. I was only using 3 mil thick plastic sheeting and it managed to break on me. In my opinion, 3 mil is a reasonable plastic sheeting thickness. I would imagine that if these slider pieces make it through a single use, their likelihood of bending/breaking on the next use will be quite high. One of my slider pieces broke and another bent. The other two managed to make it through one use unscathed so that's 50% of the slider pieces making it through a single use without bending or breaking. That's a failing grade (much like the rating I've given this product).
What is extremely disappointing is that I ordered this set well in advance knowing that they *could be* useful for the floor refinishing/sanding that I am doing, but by the time I get around to using them for the first time, it has been just over 1 month (1 month and 2 days) since I bought them so they are ineligible for a return to Amazon. It is frustrating because all I expect is for them to send me a couple more of these poor quality slider pieces (which will also be likely to break in 1 or 2 uses). The poles themselves seem to be good quality so I was able to overcome my disappointment with the slider pieces to acknowledge this with an extra star.
Although these poles *could* get the job done effectively, I am very upset that I couldn't get the slider pieces through a single use without them bending/cracking on account of the thickness of 3mil plastic sheeting. On the flip side, if you use sheeting that is thinner (1 or 2 mil sheeting), you run a higher risk of the plastic tearing so you walk a fine line between having too thin plastic sheeting that will tear or breaking the slider pieces.
Right now, I am in the process of trying to contact the manufacturer of the ZipPoles for the replacement head pieces, and I hope they will be easy to deal with. I will follow up to advise everyone about how easy OR difficult it is to get replacement head pieces based on this 1-year warranty that they offer. My rating is biased because of the disappointing component (slider pieces) despite the rest of the set being of decent quality. If the head pieces were better quality, I could see giving this product a 4 or 5 star rating. In my opinion, a product is only as good as its weakest link, and in this case, the weakest link is the poorly made slider parts.

The ZP4 includes four ZipPole Spring-Loaded Poles, two Standard Zippers, and a convenient Carry Bag that can hold up to 12 poles. Plastic sheeting is not included.
Winner of the Remodeling Show 2009 Best New Product Award The ZipPole product is made of steel for durability and strength. These poles can support up to 80 pounds each, and their height can be adjusted from 4' 2" to 10' 3". They can handle plastic or cloth sheeting up to eight mils thick. In fact, ZipPole products are the winner of the Remodeling Show 2009 Best New Product Award, and they have all the patented features of the original award-winning ZipWall Spring-Loaded Poles.
Ideal for a Wide Range of Construction ProjectsThis system is ideal for a wide variety of residential, commercial, and DIY projects that create dust or other potentially harmful debris. These projects include demolition, drywall work, plaster repairs, insulating walls and ceilings, sanding and painting, chimney work, kitchen and bath renovation, and more. Small and lightweight, the ZipPole Four-Pack is easy to handle and can fit in the trunk of a car.
Easy to Use, No-Damage InstallationZipWall systems remove the need for tape, staples, glue, furring strips, and ladders when creating a temporary dust barrier. This saves time and it eliminates costly repairs to finished surfaces.
Sheeting is securely attached at the top of the pole by sandwiching the material between the interlocking head and plate. The twist-locking telescoping pole lets you raise the sheeting quickly and easily without a ladder.
All ZipWall pole systems feature Spring Loading at the top. This lets you lift the pole to tuck the sheeting underneath for easy setup. It also maintains constant tension on the pole, compensating for movement at the ceiling or at the floor if the poles are bumped, or if there is a lot of air movement at the jobsite.
The ZipPole barrier system is locked in place with non-skid, non-marking pads at the top of each pole. These pads grab the ceiling like magic. The non-skid GripDisk keeps the foot of each pole and the sheeting locked in position at the floor.
Ideal for Dropped Ceilings or When Running Negative/Positive Air PressureThe ZipPole product is ideal for dropped ceilings. Just place the poles so the tops push against the grid. Then, follow the grid until you have created a barrier of desired size. Spring Loading keeps the barrier in position by automatically adjusting the pole height to compensate for any movement of the grid during setup.
If you are renovating a space where negative or positive air pressure is required, the non-skid pad at the top of the pole, the non-skid GripDisk under the foot of the pole, and internal Spring Loading will keep the ZipWall dust barrier securely in position.
Create a Doorway Easily with the Standard Self-Adhesive ZippersWith the two Standard Zippers included in the ZP4 kit, you can create a doorway anywhere in the plastic sheeting. Use one zipper for a simple doorway or place two zippers side by side to create a wide roll-up doorway. The wide doorway makes it easy to move equipment and building materials in and out yet still maintain a dust-tight seal when closed.
Easy, One-Person Installation in Just MinutesUsing old-fashioned methods, a barrier 30 feet long and 10 feet high would take between one and three hours to erect. With the ZipPole Spring-Loaded Poles, the same barrier can be installed in a matter of minutes.
Unlike barriers made with tape, staples, glue, or furring strips, this dust barrier system won't come down unexpectedly or cause damage to finished surfaces. Best of all, you can use a ZipWall dust barrier system again and again.
Works with Other ZipWall ProductsThe ZipPole Four-Pack gives you the complete framework for a 30-foot-long sealed workspace. All you need is a roll of plastic sheeting. If you want to enclose a larger space, purchase additional ZipPole Spring-Loaded Poles in the convenient the ZP2 Two-Pack.
This ZipPole product can be used with ZipWall's Tight Seal accessories, including Foam Rails, to create a continuous seal along the ceiling. It can be used with the ZipWall Side Pack to create a continuous seal along the walls. Doorways can easily be created with ZipWall's Heavy-Duty or Standard Zippers.
If you are working with ceilings over 10 feet tall, you can purchase ZipWall's original 12-foot Spring-Loaded Poles in the handy SLP2 Two-Pack, SLP6 Six-Pack, or Four-Pack Plus Convenience Pack. For cathedral or vaulted ceilings, or ceiling heights over 12 feet, you can also purchase ZipWall's 20-foot KT-20 Spring-Loaded Poles.
Protect Children and Property from Lead-Dust ContaminationProviding a dust-tight seal around worksites is very important, especially when doing demolition or when renovating an older home that has lead paint. In fact, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandates that dust be contained when as little as six square feet of lead paint is disturbed in homes or facilities where there are children under six years old.
Go to www.epa.gov/lead to get details on the latest lead-safety rules and lead-safe work practices. New EPA laws are an important reason to keep a ZipWall Barrier System on hand.

Hyde Tools 09170 Vac-Pole Sander Without Pole Review

Having done a couple thousand square feet of drywall finishing the old fashioned way (coughing up dust as I sanded), I was hoping for something inexpensive that would maybe take half of the dust out of the air. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the Dust Dog does much more, sucking away almost all of the dust created from sanding. No longer will I emerge from the work area looking like a ghost.
The unit is simple, and the female connection for the pole is sturdy. Some minor drawbacks: while not made of cast iron or anything, the unit is heavier than a plain sanding block, and you also have to dangle the vacuum hose around with you, so you will tire faster when sanding, especially on higher walls and ceilings. Additionally, the "suction control valve" does not have a tremendous amount of adjustability, but I didn't notice that sanding was any harder due to the block sticking to the sanding surface. Lastly, because the vacuum hose dangles off of the bottom of the universal joint, you can't rotate the sanding block around as easily or in as many positions as a plain pole sander. On a positive note, grasping the unit at the universal joint is a relatively comfortable grip to do close-up hand-sanding instead of using the pole.
That being said, I'm pleased with an inexpensive means of dustless drywall sanding. I have mine hooked up to a run-of-the-mill Ridgid shop vac without any special filter, and while I do need to shake the filter out relatively frequently, it does just fine keeping the dust in the vacuum.

Hydro Tools 8375 8- to 16-Foot Adjustable Commercial Fiberglass Telescopic Pool Pole Review

I have shopped for a fiberglass pole for a while and this was a quick decision based on the low price. I received the pole a few days ago. I attached my leaf net and noticed a significant weight increase versus the aluminum version. When I attached my brush the extra weight helped a bit for up/down motions. Overall if you absolutely do not want more weight to deal with - not a good match for you. My primary reason for purchase is the attachment sleeve. It constructed 10 times stronger than a standard aluminum and should last for many years. I typically bought a new aluminum pole every season at $15-$20 each and by end of summer the attachment eyelets were severely damaged. This time I hope this one will last much longer. For the price it's a no brainer.

X-Pole Xpert 50mm Chrome Review

X-Pole Xpert 50mm Chrome

**NOTE: I do NOT own the new pole Xpert! I wrote this review for the 'old' X-pole...I'm not sure why Amazon transferred my review to the new product.***
This product is worth its weight in gold! Okay, well, maybe not quite that much. But, even as an 'exotic dancer,' I honestly can't imagine being happier with a different product. In fact, it's easy for me to forget that it's a portable pole!
But I'm getting ahead of myself. First of all, prior to purchasing this product, I was deciding between a few different portable poles: the Li'l Mynx, Superpole, and the X-Pole. By the way, if you buy this pole, do not buy the product directly from X-Pole! They are based in the UK, and you'll end up paying a hefty sum for shipping, even though the pole appears to be cheaper on their site. Buy it from Amazon.
As a disclaimer, I have heard good things about all three of these pole brands, but to me, the X-Pole seemed the most...intense. Its advertising really emphasizes that the pole is meant to be swung upon, and seeing as how its price was competitive, I decided to try my luck with the X-Pole. I was primarily looking for a pole that would 1) Hold my weight, even at high velocities, 2) Be completely portable, and 3)Spin like a real stripper pole. I don't look like I weigh much, but at 145 pounds, I was afraid that I'd easily topple anything that wasn't constructed very, very well! I honestly was ready to send back any product that didn't meet my expectations to the T. There is no way I would risk my safety just to have a recreational pole in my apartment.
The pole arrived in good time. The box (at 39 lbs) contains two sporty/stylish bags (to carry the differently-shaped parts for total portability), two longer poles, two bases, two extensions, a tool kit (contains everything you need to put the pole together), a DVD, an instruction manual, and a metal cover for the otherwise-exposed, adjustable top. I was concerned at first because one of the metal bases seemed very unstable. However, as demonstrated by the DVD, it is supposed to be like this before you put the pole together.
I started trying to put it together using the written instructions. And I really shouldn't have bothered. The written instructions are so confusing compared to the visual DVD!! On the DVD, two instructors put the pole together very simply (with no fade-in-fade-out tweens: it really is easy!). Then again, I'm a visual person. But in my experience, the written instructions just complicated what the DVD clearly explained. (Also, the DVD contains step-by-step instructions on some basic pole/floor moves.)
It is very easy to put together (though I'd recommend having someone help you). The learning curve is sharp: I won't need to refer back to the instructions if I decide to move the pole elsewhere: its construction is very simple. Simple, but STURDY! I live in an old apartment, and so had to find a place on the ceiling where it was completely flat. I didn't search for the ceiling beams (though I probably should've); I just searched for a place where it would stand straight. But this pole is SOLID. I can literally grab the pole, shake it as hard as I can, and it still does not budge. With the two extensions, it fairly easily reaches the top of my 9' ceiling, and still does not feel wobbly (some poles get noticeably more wobbly as more extensions are added on).
Of course, you can also choose to put the pole in 'static' mode, but where's the fun in that? This pole is exactly what my pole at work looks and feels like, even though the one at my job isn't portable! The grip, the spin type, and the material, are all authentic. Trust me, I would know. :0)
I really find very few products I'm passionate about, but I cannot find anything wrong with this one. Whether you're buying it as a sexy workout toy, as something to make your significant other's jaw drop, or because you're a stripper who likes to take her work home, this is the pole for you. I LOVE IT.
Note: Poles are not easy to work on at first. It took me about three months at work to stop getting bruises on my inner thighs just from simply "sitting" on the pole and spinning! If you're looking for a pole that has an easier grip (a "stickier" pole), then consider buying the titanium gold pole or finding one made of brass. But stainless steel will definitely make you earn your pole creds!
*********EDIT***********
I only paid a bit over $300 for my pole when I bought it awhile ago. I have no idea why its price has raised so dramatically on Amazon, but I'd advise searching for a better price elsewhere! I hear that X-Pole now has a base in the US, so try buying it from them!!
