(More customer reviews)This unit is a big time-saver for plumbing and leveling posts and beams. Being held in place by the rubber band leaves your hands free for adjusting and securing the post. Double-checking the posts with a framing level after they were secured revealed that the post level was accurate.
They only reason that I rated this level with 4-stars rather than five was that the single rubber band does not pull the level firmly against the post without pressing the level into place. There is enough friction between the level and the wood to prevent both seating faces from firmly contacting the post. Simply pushing the level firmly against the post takes care of this and the rubber band will retain it in that position afterwards. It seems that having two retaining bands, one at each end, rather than a single, centrally located band would be a better design.
The only other small deficiency is that the included rubber band is only large enough to reach around a 4"x4" post. Larger timbers required that additional rubber bands be daisy-chained to reach around. Simple fix for a simple problem.

(More customer reviews)I purchased one of these over three years ago to establish a square corner for a poured concrete wall down in a trench. It worked very well. Since that time, I have found many other uses for the 5-way laser. Mostly, I use it for building layout by checking plumb, level, and square all at the same time. In a pole barn, you can simply place the level on the ground next to a post, climb up to the top with your tape measure and measure over to the laser beam. You will never again worry about a conventional plumb bob blowing in the wind. This 5-way laser is best suited for medium to big projects - especially outdoors - not for indoor picture hanging. It does not project a line on the wall. It projects a precision dot in five directions: Up, Down, Left, Right and Forward - all 90 degrees apart. (I own a picture hanging style level laser for things such as indoor work on a wall and I also own a Spectra Precision dual slope laser with a 3000' range (for those really big jobs)). All things considered, this Stanley Fat Max 5-way laser is one of my favorite tools for building layout, concrete form layout, and quality control. An amazing tool that fits in the palm of your hand.

Stanley 77-153 CL2 FatMax Cross Line Laser Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this self-leveling laser line "projector" yesterday since I am starting to build my own kitchen cabinets. My floors and walls are not perfcctly level or plumb so I needed a fast reference line to measure to. What a dream this tool is. Just place it on the floor or a counter, aim it where you want a line, turn it on and a perfectly horzontal line splashes across the wall, regardless of what it is sitting on. Hit the button again and a vertical line gets projected. Hit the button again and cross-hairs appear with both horizontal and vertical lines. Hit the button again and the cross-hairs lock and you can tilt the tool to a desired tilt. I calibrated it against a plumb-bob on the vertical and it's bang on. The only draw-back I can see for pros may be the range of the laser - pretty weak beyond 25' and outside is weak also beyond 10 feet depending on the brightness of the day. Provides a very wide angle of projection (maybe about 120°)

Generally there are very few tools by DeWalt that I like, but I absolutely love these lasers. We use them for steel framing (walls, ceilings, soffits)and trim (setting cabinets and making sure that head casings align) and I ended up liking it so much, I bought my own. The only complaint that I and my co-workers have is the laser line is hard to see in bright light or long distances.

On it's first use which just happened to be today the spring loaded foot gave way, my laser hit the floor and 2 of the cheap glue joints on the pole came apart. This is truly a cheap piece of junk that will not stay in my tool inventory.

(More customer reviews)PROS: I have used this several times to hang up painting, pictures, wall shelves, etc. The levels and 90 degree lasers really help line things up. It has a sort of protractor on it for angles. There is a model above this with more accurate lasers but it cost significantly more. I think this one should take care of most jobs around the house.
CONS: I kinda don't like the sticky putty stuff (to hold up device on its own on the wall). They work, but I don't know for how long. I am assuming at some point, they will lose their stickiness. Without the putty, it becomes a 2-person job for long distances. But that's not that big of a deal. It would be nice if it was a little smaller, but once again not a deal breaker.
