I purchased this blower with the intention of using it with my fireplace Heatilator. The home I purchased had this great fireplace with a Heatilator built into the harth, but it had no fans. I thought if the CFM where high enough I could block one side off (Heatilator has a vent over the top of the fireplace that the hot air comes out of and two intake vents one on either side of the harth). I've seen setups that have fans on both sides. Again, I thought I could block one intake vent off, and put a variable speed blower on the other. Well, I've done it with this fan. I had to be creative with the mount because I didn't want to drill the brick, but end game it seems to fit fine and when it's running is pretty quiet.
Here's the down side. It's not big enough. It does move the air, but not as much as I would like it. I suppose I blame it on my inexperience with moving air given the extremely wide variety of these type of blowers out there. This fan is rated at 30 CFM. Considering what kind of performance I'm getting out of this fan, I would consider a future upgrade to a 60 CFM possibly 100CFM blower. With a speed controller I believe that would allow me to heat the room, or maybe the entire house from the fire place. At full speed, this fan is just not enough. I'm sure this little blower is doing exactly what it was designed to do. I cannot fault the blower, just my poor judgement.
It should be mentioned that I'm using this blower with a Dial-a-Temp plug-in fan speed controller. The instructions for the blower indicated that it is not recommended for use with any type of speed controller. I'll likely burn it out with my speed controller, but this is something to pay attention too if your considering this type of project.
