CADET 72812 Double Pole Line Voltage Dual Diaphragm temperature Control Heat Wall Thermostat White (T4398B) (08132) Review
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)Hi, I used this unit to replace the existing thermostat in a bedroom. It's being used with a forced air Cadet heater.
It works much, much better than the one I replaced. There were a couple of problems with the cheap old one that this unit resolved.
First the old one was very inaccurate. The temperature markings on the dial weren't even remotely accurate. Second it would let the room get rather cold before engaging and then heat it too warm before disengaging.
Pros
- Markings on the dial are accurate
- Temperature range is better controlled
- Includes a thermometer
Cons
- Instructions were technical for the typical homeowner
- No wire nuts included
- Shipping from Acehardwareoutlet was slow. It took 13 days to arrive.
In summary it works well.

The T4398 Series Performance Thermostat:Line Voltage Dual Diaphragm temperature Control Heat Wall ThermostatThe vast majority of line-voltage thermostats employ a bimetallic element to sense and control the heaters. This design works on the principle that different metals expand and contract at different rates as the heat and cool. These thermostats are cheap to make, but they tend to be inaccurate and to allow a very broad deadband. The deadband is the temperature range between when the thermostat turns the heaters on and when it turns them off. An old bimetallic thermostat could easily allow for an eight degree deadband or greater. That means that, if you set the thermostat for 68 degrees, it would not turn the heaters on until the temperature dropped to 64 degrees, and it would not turn the heaters off until the temperature reached 72 degrees. If you have baseboard heaters and you experience large changes in temperature while keeping a constant thermostat setting, the thermostat is causing the phenomenon.Whereas the T4398 performance thermostats uses vapor-filled dual diaphragm temperature control, which tightens the comfort range with more accuracy, and can save up to 12% on your heating bill. These models include an industrial grade Micro Switch with extended life, and can replace most wall-mount line voltage thermostats and provides 2°F (1°C) sensitivity with minimum droop.Features and Benefits:Vapor-filled dual diaphragm temperature control tightens the comfort range provides 2°F (1°C) sensitivity with minimum droop.
