(More customer reviews)I started with the straight-shaft trimmer and soon added the pole saw for lopping off those low hanging limbs. Some pole saws have the motor in the saw and are practically impossible to use because they are so top heavy. The Troy-Bilt motor acts like a counter-balance to lighten the weight of the saw. Now, I've added the brush cutter which cuts tough weeds and grass, but doesn't do much for small tree seedlings more than a half inch in diameter. I've used it two full years for trimming grass, limbs, and weeds (sunflowers) and can usually depend on it starting with 1 or 2 easy pulls. I've had a couple of other string trimmers and hated them because they were hard to start, but the Troy-Bilt (MTD) is very satisfactory. I've recently switched to .105 line and it lasts a long time if you stay away from curbs and foundations.

The first weedeater I bought was a curved shaft and it was very hard to start and keep running. So I was a little hesitant to purchase another one from amazon. Once I opened the box all I had to do was attach the 2 pieces together and also attach the safety guard. It took about 3 minutes to put together. Also if buying the attachments, you will be able to switch them with no problem. Also if you take your hand off the throttle, the weedeater will stop, and the engine will still be running (nice safety feature), and when you put your finger back on the throttle, the weedeater will be ready to start trimming again. I actually bought mine for $99.00 shipped when Amazon had their weekend sale. I think this is a really good weedeater at $150.00, but at $99.00 it's even better.

(More customer reviews)I only need to show you this part number. 545001001 . Google it like this {545001001 cylinder}. this comes up as a poulan pro trimmer cylinder. I got this part number off of husqvarna's parts break down list for husqvarna 128l/LDX trimmer. The 128l/LDX trimmer is a 100.00 poulan pro trimmer wrapped in orange plastic instead of yellow. I didnt know husqvarna stickers cost over 100.00. This trimmer has one piston ring not two like a real husqvarna. It does however have the chrome cylinder lining. this would be poulans {Durachrome} cylinder.
If you want a husqvarna thats a true husqvarna get the 223l. Thats really the lower end husqvarna {for now}.
the 128l/ldx trimmers do not have the black plate stating husqvarna made in sweden like true husqvarnas have. In fact I could not locate an origin sticker/plate anywhere on it? My search told me its built in U.S.A..
That tells me the poulan/weedeater plant here owned by husqvarna. If you want this trimmer buy it with the poulan name and save 100.00.
The poulan PP133 trimmer appears to look just like this model. {minor plastic changes}. the first several numbers on the cylinder match . the last few numbers are different. But the poulan pro model cylinder is sold as a kit form. Cylinder and ring set combined. Thus the number change. The pp133 is rated at 33cc not 28cc like this model. Any small engine mechanic will tell you not to look at cc ratings. look at hp. rating. Big box stores get too advertise high cc ratings on small engines for sales tactics.
I'm not saying this is a bad trimmer. I bet its a real good home owner trimmer like advertised. I just think Husqvarna should put the correct name were it belongs and not mislead people. If I wasnt one of those people that researched everthing to death I'd not discovered this. I recomend researching anything over 100.00. Today it saved me 100.00 dollars. Hope I saved you money too.

(More customer reviews)Absolutely the most powerful electric 16 inch saw I have ever used. My McCulloch was great and my Remington was ok, but this item is FANTATISC! Excellent power (4.5 hp) to clear the back 40 and light enough to take up in a tree. Very quiet operation. The customer service was also outstanding from the manufacturer. This item is so new that they have not had a lot of feedback yet. The only thing I found as a slight negative was that nowhere in the user's manual or anywhere else do they tell you how many links to order for a replacement chain. They are correcting that with the new printing of the user's manual. When I do replace the chain, my local Oregon dealer will have the appropriate size. Once done, I will just mark the manual accordingly. The way this thing cuts it might be a while before I need a new chain though! This is a great product at a reasonable price!

Mantis 330106 E-System Pruner/Chain Saw Attachment Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased the Mantis e-system last year and finally got around to taking it out to use it today. I originally bought the e-system with the head unit, the hedge trimmer and the pole saw as a package deal. The following review will cover all three parts, since they are designed to be used in conjunction with each other.
I was really excited when I first ran across this product. What could be better than a pole hedge trimmer that also can turn into an edger or pole saw, etc? Seems like a good idea, although I didn't notice the "made in China" on the box until I went to open it today.
So with three medium trees in the side yard to trim, I broke open the Mantis package. Packing was nice and the company included some bar oil for the pole saw. The head unit was a bit heavier than I expected. I also noticed that the trigger to operate it was a bit awkward. There is a button you have to push in order to depress the trigger, but it's difficult to work it. I found this to be really annoying while using the tool, although if you tilt it to the side a little, it makes it a little easier.
At first, the parts seems pretty well made. The hedge trimmer attaches to the head unit with a pin that you pull out and then a little plastic knob that you tighten down. There is a lever and nut which you use to articulate the angle of the edge trimmer; it's a pretty nice setup and I liked how the hedge trimmer was adjustable.
So I attached the hedge trimmer and plugged the head unit it. I pushed the trigger and nothing happened. What the heck? I pushed it again and I could hear the motor straining to start, but again, nothing. After a few more attempts, the hedge trimmer started to go. Wow, how lame... It seems the head unit is a bit under powered or something. Each time you push the trigger, it takes a second to get going, then it starts to move the hedge trimmer back and forth in a cutting action. It does work, but it's kind of strange because my other hedge trimmer doesn't do that. The hedge trimmer cuts okay, but let me tell you, when you have the hedge trimmer pole attached to the head unit, this thing is heavy as all get out. I have a heavy 15 lb chain saw and this pole hedge trimmer makes it feel "light". I was really surprised by how heavy the setup felt - it sure didn't seem like Mantis went out of their way to save weight on the unit. I'd give the hedge trimmer a C- grade, given that it doesn't start up right away and that it weighs a lot. It does trim okay, but I wasn't all that impressed with it. Even after putting oil on the blades and loosening the screws that hold the blades together, it didn't speed anything up as far as the cutting action.
While cutting, I quickly ran into limbs which were larger than the 1/2 size the hedge trimmer can handle. No problem, I switched to the pole saw. The pole saw is like a little chain saw. In fact, it comes with a nice little Oregon chain (Oregon is the company who invented the chain saw blade and I actually use them on my Stihl chainsaw because their chains are so good). So that part was nice. The pole saw also includes a little bar just like a chain saw. It's maybe 12 inches long and nicely made. The problem came in when I went to attach it to the part on the end of the pole. The pin and screw which adjust the tension on the bar/chain is really lame. On mine, the threads were a bit rough looking. After mounting the bar and chain, I adjusted it, but was less than impressed with the design of this area. The screw they use to adjust the tension on the chain is really cheap and difficult to adjust during use. There is also an oil tank, which you fill with 30 weight bar oil.
The pole saw cuts pretty well, but overall it has a cheap feel to it. As I used it, it seemed like it starts to loosen up (and not in a good way). I went to tighten the chain, but again, the screw setup is really poorly designed. Also, it just seems like the part where the bar attaches is not very heavy duty. Beyond this, when cutting limbs, the pole saw throws the wood chips right back into your face. I guess there isn't much you can do about it, but it is a hassle. Also, when cutting, the bar bounces all around. I only used the pole saw to cut a few limbs, but I wouldn't put too much hope in it holding up long term.
Overall, this product has potential, but it just seems poorly designed and executed. The quality just isn't there. It feels like it was designed by someone who has never done yard work - especially when you consider how heavy it is. I would hate to have to use this thing on a daily basis and/or for any extended period of time. I also have my doubts if it would even last for an extended period of time.
As much as I like the concept of the e-system, this product just falls short and lands in the cheap China junk category for me. I guess you get what you pay for. It's not all that expensive (similar stihl products probably cost more than twice as much). However, unless you plan to use the Mantis on a very limited basis, I think I would recommend against purchasing it.

It is neither as powerful nor as rugged as the truly industrial-strength brands. It's basically a Poulan Weedeater (think Wal-Mart) with a saw attachment (think Lowes/HD). Professional grade tools come from Outdoor Power and your local saw shop or your local mower shop. This is for you and me to use a few times per year, so's we don't fall off a ladder with our regular chain saws, not for tree-trimmers who would use it every day.
Secondly, you MUST keep your saw sharp, and you MUST know how to execute cuts to keep from binding your saw. It's this simple. No amount of complaining or money spent on more expensive models will save you from yourself. For this, I am very sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
Now, here's the good news ... there are websites out there that will show you the way to make the most common cuts. How to under cut first, where to watch the limb/tree to know to retract *before* you're in a bind. Secondly, Oregon Saws offers a free document on their website on how to sharpen a chain saw.
This little guy can neither be set up too "hungry" nor can you let it get too dull, and expect any sort of good results. This tool is meant for a very specific job, and not really anything else. If you're using it to make even small firewood, you're testing it's limits, though, I'm confident I could make a little firewood with it if I had to. It would be slow-going compared to my traditional saws. Likewise, blazing or limbing or pruning trees with my traditional chainsaws is no fun when compared to the extended reach of this little guy. There's a tool for every job, and most importantly, there's a way to properly use, service and maintain every tool. It's not rocket ... uh ... surgery ... or anything, but it will take about 30 minutes of your "hobby-time" to read up on what it takes to make a saw cut, and then confidently execute a cut well. There is nothing wrong with this tool ... much like there is nothing wrong with my golf clubs ... :-)

Poulan Pro PP3000B Blower Trimmer Attachment Review

(More customer reviews)I was initially sceptical about the performance of this item, but I live on a hillside where raking is difficult, and decided it was worth a try as I was ordering a multi-attachment string trimmer anyway. The Amazon review indicated it would fit brands other than Poulan, and I was certainly happy when it snapped right on to my new Troy Bilt trimmer. The Amazon review also said the blower would produce a 150 mph jet of air, which I dismissed as ad hype.
I was wrong.
This blower BLASTS! I kicks up a duststorm of leaves, gravel, small branches, and the occasional garden gnome. I works great for my hillside situation, allowing me to jet out leaves from under bushes and garden structures from 20 feet away, and cut my raking time from over an hour to just minutes. I would have given this unit 5 stars, but I have only used it for 2 weeks, and I have no idea of its durability over time.

(More customer reviews)First off, to Amazon who always has an excellence service as usual (at least to me). Thank Amazon, the tools arrived 1 day before your scheduled. After inspected, the condition of box are undamaged, and yes the trimmer (and edging attachment) are new... That's all I needed so far.
The trimmer, it looks bigger and heavier than my old one. My old one is a 25cc Weed-Eater which's died after 3yrs of service.
After 3 easy pulls for the first time, the engine start to run right away. What's surprised me is the head spool is ONLY rotate (slowly to high) when you press the throttle control switch. This is a BIG point of safety feature and convenience if you want to replace the trimmer line without shut off the engine.
Replacing the trimmer line (18" long) is only taken few seconds, a very nice design. This is the only reason that make me chose this model over the PP-125 (not because of 33cc engine).
So what is my impression during the job? Well, it's just like... I got a sharper knife. Stronger engine and a bigger trimmer line, you have to try it to feel it! I only press half way of the throttle control switch and is enough power to do the job.
Oh, about the trimmer line, it came with about 6 extras in the box so you don't have to worry about buying the replacement lines box right away.
I haven't try the edging attachment tool yet, but I will put it in a separate review.
In conclusion, for the price and its features, this trimmer is Highly-Recommended. This is not the first time I use the Poulan Pro product. My blower, which is still running since Summer 2005 and require only 1 pull to start. What's I hope to this trimmer in future is make its lighter and a 4cyc engine to eliminate the "oil mix" feature.

(More customer reviews)I bought this for some light trimming around the house and because the chainsaw could be used independent of the pole. Attaching the saw to the pole isn't as easy as it could be but once you figure it out it's a one-person, 5 minute job with a screwdriver. Keeping the chain tight and oiled at normal parts of chainsaw use and the instructions laid out in the manual. The manual isn't the best, but if you read it enough times and concentrate on the tiny pictures it makes sense...
I was impressed with the cutting ability of this little thing. It cut through everything I threw at it, up to 8" limbs.
There are a couple of down sides though. It's heavy and unweildly, especially with the boom extended. I ended up bracing it against my hip to stabilize it while getting it into position. The real annoyance is the design of the pole. Even when the locking mechanism is tightened, the saw portion of the pole rotates independently from the handle portion. This means that any maneuvering that's not in line with where the saw wants to go is really tricky. After a couple of cuts the handle would be at a 90 degree angle to the blade. Really annoying!
Over all I'm happy with it. I'm glad I got this multi purpose saw instead of a pole saw that can only ever be a pole saw... With this one you have some flexibility, which is nice. I just wish the handle would stay where you put it!
