(More customer reviews)WOW!!! This is one tough Mailbox. I live in Punta Gorda Florida, and in 2004 we had a category 4 Hurricane by the name of Charlie. We where hit with 145+ mile per hour winds. It did a tremendous amount of damage to the aria. Street sighs, telephone poles, mobile homes, bill boards, etc where either blown over, blown away or blown apart. Amazingly after all this destruction this Mailbox was still standing " true it had a slight list to one side " but never the less still standing. Even more amazing it was all in one piece with absolutely no damage to it. It was one of the few mailboxes still standing and in one piece in the whole aria.
This is a one piece double walled mailbox, the post and the box are molded together. The post has a 4 by 4 in cut out section where a wood post can be inserted. It has a pull open door in front and another one in back. The back door eliminates the need for you to stand on the street to get your mail. And of course you have your flip up red flag. Plus a compartment underneath for a newspaper. There is no metal on it, so it never rusts. It does not fade or peel, so it need's no painting. It's a true maintenance free mail box.
Installing it is fairly simple, but it does take a bit of work to do it properly.
First you will need a 4 foot piece of 4 by 4 inch treated wood.
Next a post digger or narrow shovel to dig a hole for the wood post.
And a bag of cement to secure and keep the post and mailbox stable.
Now all you have to do is dig the hole. Just dig deep enough that there is enough pole above ground where the mailbox fits over the pole and the bottom is flush with the ground.
Next put the wood pole in the ground and pour the mixed cement around the pole and into your hole. The wider the hole and the more cement you use the more stable the mailbox will be. Don't fill the hole all the way leave some room on top for grass.
NOTE !!! Make sure the wood pole is standing up perfectly straight, when the cement dries you won't be able to move it. " Best to prop it up with something while the cement is drying "
After the cement is dry and the wood pole is set, place the mailbox and it's post over the wood post. When its in it's proper position take the large wood bolts and screw them in attaching the mail box post section to your cemented in wood post.
That should do it. Now just clean up grab yourself a cold one and admire your mailbox and your handiwork.
This is an extremely nice looking mailbox that has held up well for the 9 years that I have it. It looks nearly as good today as the day I bought it.
