(More customer reviews)I tried 'em all. The sanding block on a pole---my arms STILL hurt from that and dust got in my eyes! The wet sponge or rag---not dusty, but it took forever. My orbital palm sander worked well, but the plaster gummed up its insides.
Enter the FibaTape Dustless Drywall Sander. I was helping my bro-in-law Goog remodel his bathroom. After putting the first layer of mud up I left him to do the sanding. (Because I hate it.) But a friend of his had one of these dandy FibaTape sanders hooked up to a shop vac! Presto! Sanding drywall was a dream! Almost effortless, and best of all---NO DUST! Note: We used the FibaTape sanding screens, and they worked VERY well.
I'm getting one of these babies because I know that after the first two jobs it will have paid for itself.

(More customer reviews)I have over 15 years experience with drywall, so I'm not new to this. I agonized over spending this much money on a sander for a couple years. Yes, it's been available that long. But, I'm getting older and the back and shoulders don't like hand sanding on ceilings and I have yet to perfect the "sponge" method.
Regardless, I purchased the P-C sander and a box of 150 grit pads. If I didn't like it, I could sell it on "auctions". After one large room, I was pleased. I will agree with some other reviewers that you can make plenty of swirl marks. That's the first thing I did. The second thing I did was to spend 5 minutes playing with it to figure out how NOT to make swirl marks. It really isn't that hard. It is much faster than hand sanding and virtually no dust. My customers love that part!! (I do alot of remodelling jobs). If you do a good job mudding, there should be minimal sanding to do anyway.
This sander will NOT do inside corners. Based on its design, it can't get any closer than about 3/4" to the actual corner. Know up front that you will still need to touch up the inside corners. This sander is primarily for large relatively flat surfaces, and in my opinion it does a good job when used properly.
The other thing that P-C should work on is the weight. I know we all carry around tools that weigh more than 8 pounds. Try holding it over your head for any length of time though. While it is balanced nicely, 8 lbs. is still 8 lbs.
You also don't need to spend "money" on the vacuum either. (Sorry P-C) My QSP shop vac with a Cleanstream/Gore-tex filter($22) works just fine.
The 13' hose means you can put the vacuum in the center of a room and not have to move the vacuum, just walk around and sand.
So, don't look for mine on "auctions". It's staying in my toolbox.

(More customer reviews)After going thru the above reviews, it's obvious way too many guys are not reading the directions! there is a valve to reduce suction so that the sander head isn't stuck to the wall and solutions for other problems, too. is it the world's greatest heavy duty drywall sander for production use? no. but is it almost perfect for the homeowner or tradesman who only has to hang and finish drywall once in a while and often needs to keep the mess to a minimum in the process? YES. yeah, it whistles- big deal, get some earplugs. my shopvac is so loud i'm usually wearing them anyway. probably the best part is that it allows you go more than five minutes without the vac filter clogging AND you're dumping thin sludge instead of a huge cloud of dust at cleanup time.

Marshalltown VS792 Vacuum Sander with Hose Review

(More customer reviews)I love this sander. The handle is comfortable and makes sanding allot easier. I had another vacuum sander but never ended up finishing a job with a regular sander since the other vacuum sander was so uncomfortable and difficult to use. Using this I was able to do a small drywall job in my house without moving out or coating the house with dust as happens with a regular sander. I'm not a professional so I really appreciated the soft grip which made holding onto it after sanding for a long time much easier. I also liked being able to shift hand positions and use both hands for difficult parts or to give my arms a break.

The vacuum does a great job of containing the dust, but the suction also makes it difficult to work the pole accress the ceiling. It was quite a workout, so I did the final coats from a ladder using the hand head Magna vacuum unit. The pole itself is a little flimsy, but, as they say... "you get what you pay for".

(More customer reviews)I have used this item on a dozen or so projects. it is excelent. I t is a bit of a nusance to sand with a hose hanging there but you quickly get used to managing it. The dust dog comes with a lightweight flexible hose section that helps a lot. For the money it can not be beat. Sure if you are doing 10,000 SF of rock get a pro system. But this has held up well and captures 95%+ of the dust. If you are going to be using it a lot consider gettin a longer hose for your shop vac so you can set it, and it's noise somewhere else

(More customer reviews)Had ordered the Sand & Kleen system previously, the hand sanding unit, and was satisfied with how it worked,. I then did some drywall work on ceilings, and decided to give the pole extension kit a try.
I was very unhappy with how it was packaged when it arrived, and the head attachment, at the end of the extension pole, is way TOO floppy. Have accidentally gouged the ceiling in a couple of places, when the head has pivoted unexpectedly, and made more work for myself.
I can not in good conscience recommend this to anyone.

Hyde Tools 09170 Vac-Pole Sander Without Pole Review

(More customer reviews)Having done a couple thousand square feet of drywall finishing the old fashioned way (coughing up dust as I sanded), I was hoping for something inexpensive that would maybe take half of the dust out of the air. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the Dust Dog does much more, sucking away almost all of the dust created from sanding. No longer will I emerge from the work area looking like a ghost.
The unit is simple, and the female connection for the pole is sturdy. Some minor drawbacks: while not made of cast iron or anything, the unit is heavier than a plain sanding block, and you also have to dangle the vacuum hose around with you, so you will tire faster when sanding, especially on higher walls and ceilings. Additionally, the "suction control valve" does not have a tremendous amount of adjustability, but I didn't notice that sanding was any harder due to the block sticking to the sanding surface. Lastly, because the vacuum hose dangles off of the bottom of the universal joint, you can't rotate the sanding block around as easily or in as many positions as a plain pole sander. On a positive note, grasping the unit at the universal joint is a relatively comfortable grip to do close-up hand-sanding instead of using the pole.
That being said, I'm pleased with an inexpensive means of dustless drywall sanding. I have mine hooked up to a run-of-the-mill Ridgid shop vac without any special filter, and while I do need to shake the filter out relatively frequently, it does just fine keeping the dust in the vacuum.
